The Haunted Castle (1896 Film)
''Le Manoir du diable'' or ''The House of the Devil'', released in the United States as ''The Haunted Castle'' and in Britain as ''The Devil's Castle'', is an 1896 French short silent film directed by Georges Méliès. The film, which depicts a brief pantomimed sketch in the style of a theatrical comic fantasy, tells the story of an encounter with the Devil and various attendant phantoms. It is intended to evoke amusement and wonder from its audiences, rather than fear. However, because of its themes and characters, the film has been considered to technically be the first horror film. Such a classification can also be attributed to the film's depiction of a human transforming into a bat, a plot element which has led some observers to label the work the first vampire film. The film is also innovative in length; its running time of over three minutes was ambitious for its era. A single remake was produced one year later under the title ''Le Château hanté'' ('' The Haunted Cast ...

The Haunted Castle (1897 British Film)
''The Haunted Castle'' is a hypothetical lost 1897 British film, attributed in some filmographies to the British film pioneer George Albert Smith, but which may be a misidentification of a French film by Georges Méliès. Many of Smith's films show an interest in supernatural themes, such as ''Photographing a Ghost'' (1898), ''The Haunted Picture Gallery'' (1899), and his major short comedy ''Mary Jane's Mishap'' (1903); he also filmed a version of the Faust legend. A film called ''The Haunted Castle'', supposedly released by Smith in December 1897, was attributed to him in the 1973 edition of '' The British Film Catalogue''. However, the film historian John Barnes John Charles Bryan Barnes MBE (born 7 November 1963) is a former professional football player and manager. The Haunted Castle (1897 French Film)
''Le Château hanté'', released in the United States as ''The Devil's Castle'' and in Britain as ''The Haunted Castle'', is an 1897 French short silent film directed by Georges Méliès. It is a remake of a previous film by Méliès, ''The House of the Devil'' (''Le Manoir du diable'', 1896). The 1896 original, which was released in the United States as ''The Haunted Castle'' and in Britain as ''The Devil's Castle'', is sometimes confused for the 1897 version. ''Le Château hanté'' is about a man who enters a haunted castle and is constantly taunted by spirits within. Plot Two men enter a room in a castle; one offers a chair to the other and then exits. The remaining man attempts to sit down, but the chair moves away from him, and he falls to the ground. When the man approaches the chair, it turns into a ghost, then a skeleton, and then an armored knight; then it disappears completely. Turning, the man finds himself confronted by Satan. He attempts to escape, but a ghost blocks ...

Written by Kurt Frey and directed by co-writer Ben Stassen, the film plays out very much like many modern video games, and can be divided into two types of segments: those in which the audience is seeing through the eyes of the main character, and those in which a scene plays out where the main character is actually in the shot. Haunted Castle (Six Flags Great Adventure)
The Haunted Castle was a haunted attraction at Six Flags Great Adventure amusement park in Jackson Township, New Jersey. The original Haunted House was built prior to the fall "shoulder season" of 1978 to boost attendance and as a test for building a larger facility the following year. While it was intended that it be open only at night, the popularity of the attraction caused management to open it at the beginning of the day and keep it open until the park closed. At the end of the 1978 season, the attraction was disassembled and sent to Six Flags Over Mid-America, where it would continue to run from 1979 through 1982. The old façade was torn down and Botanical Gardens took its place. A medieval-styled façade was built for the Haunted Castle on the site of the Alpen Blitz across from the Muzik Express. On May 11, 1984, a fire destroyed the attraction, trapping and killing eight teenagers. Six Flags Great Adventure and its parent company Six Flags were indicted for aggravated m ...
