The Haller Case
''The Haller Case'' (Italian: ''Il caso Haller'') is a 1933 Italian thriller film directed by Alessandro Blasetti and starring Marta Abba, Memo Benassi and Camillo Pilotto.Brizio-Skov p.54 The film is based on the 1893 play '' Der Andere'' by Paul Lindau. It marked the screen debut of Isa Miranda, who had her breakthrough role the following year in ''Everybody's Woman'' and emerged as the most international-renowned Italian actress of the decade. It was shot at the Cines Studios in Rome. The film's sets were designed by the art directors Arnaldo Foresti and Alfredo Montori. Alessandro Blasetti
Alessandro Blasetti (3 July 1900 – 1 February 1987) was an Italian film director and screenwriter who influenced Italian neorealism with the film ''Quattro passi fra le nuvole''. Blasetti was one of the leading figures in Italian cinema during the Fascist era. He is sometimes known as the "father of Italian cinema" because of his role in reviving the struggling industry in the late 1920s. Early life Blasetti was born in Rome, where he also died. After studying law at university, Blasetti chose to become a journalist and film critic. He worked for several film magazines and led a campaign for national film production, which had largely ceased by this point. In 1919 he made a brief foray into acting when he appeared as an extra in Mario Caserini's ''Tortured Soul''. Cines Studios
The Cines Studios were film production studios located in the Italian capital Rome. They were established on Via Veio in 1930 by Stefano Pittaluga, head of the Cines film company, at the beginning of the sound era. It produced Italy's first sound film ''The Song of Love'' the same year. It was based on the 1893 play ''Der Andere'' by Paul Lindau. Max Mack
Max Mack (1884–1973) was a German screenwriter, film producer and director during the silent era. He is particularly known for his 1913 film ''The Other''. He directed, and co-starred in, an early film adaptation of ''Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde'' in 1914, called ''Ein Seltsamer Fall'', written by Richard Oswald. ''The Other'' (German: ''Der Andere'') is a 1913 German silent thriller film directed by Max Mack and starring Albert Bassermann, Emmerich Hanus and Nelly Ridon. Plot When talking with friends, Dr. Hallers, a well-known lawyer in Berlin, said he was skeptical about fantasies on the split personality: he could never believe something like that. During a ride, however, he has an accident, after which he often falls into a deep sleep from which he awakens with the feeling of having a dual personality. Later, his double starts to rob his apartment with a thief. During the robbery, the police arrives and arrests the thief. Hallers, having fallen asleep, wakes up without remembering anything of what happened. Eventually, the lawyer recovers and marries his fiancée. Umberto Sacripante
Umberto Sacripante (2 October 1904 – 14 January 1975) was an Italian film and stage actor. Life and career Born Umberto Sacripanti in Rome, Sacripante debuted on stage in 1921, and in 1926 he became first actor in the theatrical company Teatro degli Indipendenti directed by Anton Giulio Bragaglia. He made his film debut in 1930, and in a short time he became one of the most active character actors of his time. Thanks to his good knowledge of German language, he was also often cast in German and Austrian productions. He also worked as general organizer for the production company Cines, and also was secretary of the National Syndicate of Film Actors. Personal life Sacripante was married to Assunta Lelli. Their sons Luciano and Mauro both worked in the cinema industry, respectively as film director and executive producer. Cele Abba (25 May 1906 – 1 January 1992) was an Italian actress, sister of actress Marta Abba. She was born in Milan, Italy. Biography Her career experienced some reflected light, conditioned by the great popularity obtained by her older sister, the famous Marta, muse of Luigi Pirandello.
