The Great Diamond Robbery
''The Great Diamond Robbery'' is a 1954 American comedy film directed by Robert Z. Leonard and starring Red Skelton, James Whitmore, Cara Williams and Reginald Owen. It was produced and distributed by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Plot A diamond potentially worth $2 million, the "Blue Goddess," must be cut. A New York City jeweler, Bainbridge Gibbons, has an expert lined up, but his own diamond cutter, Ambrose C. Park, strongly urges Gibbons to let him do the cutting. On a park bench, Ambrose explains to a stranger that he places a newspaper ad once a year, on his birthday, and sits here hoping to be reunited with the parents who abandoned him in this very spot as an infant. George Mathews (October 10, 1911 – November 7, 1984) was an American actor whose film career stretched from an uncredited appearance in ''Stage Door Canteen'' in 1943 to '' Going Home'' in 1971. Biography Mathews was born in Brooklyn, New York. His stage career began in the early 1930s, when he failed to get a job with the U.S. Postal Service. Pat O'Malley (September 3, 1890 – May 21, 1966) was an American vaudeville and stage performer prior to starting a prolific film career at the age of sixteen. He later had a career in television. Career O'Malley was born as Patrick Henry O'Malley, Jr. in Forest City, Pennsylvania. He had circus experience by the time he discovered an interest in motion pictures. Matt Moore (January 8, 1888 – January 20, 1960) was an Irish-born American actor and director. He appeared in at least 221 motion pictures from 1912 to 1958. Jean Fenwick (born Sigfreda Harriet Krauth; May 30, 1907 — December 5, 1998) was an American actress born in Trinidad. Early life Fenwick was born in Trinidad in 1907, the older sister of Violet Ethelred Krauth (who became actress Marian Marsh) and Anthony Edward Krauth (who also acted, under the name "Tony Marsh").
