The Great Darkened Days
''The Great Darkened Days'' (french: La grande noirceur) is a Canadian drama film, directed by Maxime Giroux and released in 2018. Set during World War II, the film centres on Philippe (Martin Dubreuil), a draft dodger from Quebec who is living as a drifter and Charlie Chaplin impersonator in the United States. Despite its setting, however, the film makes use of some deliberate anachronisms, including a scene where R.E.M.'s contemporary song "Everybody Hurts" plays on the radio. The film's cast also includes Sarah Gadon, Cody Fern, Luzer Twersky, Romain Duris, Reda Kateb and Lise Roy. The film premiered at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival. Maxime Giroux
Maxime Giroux (born 16 April 1976) is a film director from Quebec, Canada. Giroux was born in Montreal, Quebec. He has directed several short films, videoclips and commercial videos. In 2006, his film '' The Days (Les Jours)'' won the prize for best short film at the Toronto International Film Festival, and in 2007 his film ''Red (Le Rouge au sol)'' won the award for Best Live Action Short Drama at the 27th Genie Awards. His videography includes music videos for Sam Roberts, Sarah Harmer, The Dears, Pilate, Louise Forestier, Corneille, Marc Déry, Les Cowboys Fringants and Vulgaires Machins. "Everybody Hurts" is a song by American rock band R.E.M. from their eighth studio album, ''Automatic for the People'' (1992), and released as a single in April 1993. It peaked at number 29 on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and reached the top 10 on the charts of Australia, Canada, France, Iceland, Ireland, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. In 2003, '' Q'' ranked "Everybody Hurts" at number 31 on their list of the "1001 Best Songs Ever". Lise Roy
Lise Roy (born 1954) is a Canadian actress who has appeared in stage productions, film and television. Roy graduated from the Conservatoire d'art dramatique de Montréal in 1975. In film, she worked with directors such as Denys Arcand, playing Mme. Joncas-Pelletier, the strict hospital manager in ''The Barbarian Invasions'' (2003); André Turpin in '' Endorphine'' (2015); and Podz in '' King Dave'' (2016). Her television work has included ''Nouvelle adresse''. On stage, she played Agathe in Michel Marc Bouchard's play ''Tom à la ferme'', reprising the role in Xavier Dolan's 2013 film of the same name.
