The Great British Bake Off (series 5)
The fifth series of ''The Great British Bake Off'' first aired on 6 August 2014, with twelve contestants. Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins presented the show and Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood returned as judges. Twelve contestants competed in this series, and the competition was held in Welford Park in Berkshire. The series was won by Nancy Birtwhistle, with Luis Troyano and Richard Burr finishing as runners-up. The programme was moved from BBC Two to BBC One starting this year, but the Masterclass episodes remained on BBC Two. A companion series, '' The Great British Bake Off: An Extra Slice'', hosted by comedian Jo Brand, started this year on BBC Two. Mel Giedroyc
Melanie Clare Sophie Giedroyc (; , born 5 June 1968) is a British actress, comedian and television presenter. With Sue Perkins, she has co-hosted series including ''Light Lunch'' for Channel 4, ''The Great British Bake Off'' for the BBC and chat show ''Mel and Sue'' for ITV. In early 2017, Giedroyc co-presented the BBC show '' Let It Shine''. Early life Giedroyc was born on 5 June 1968 in Epsom, Surrey, and grew up in Leatherhead. Her father, Michal, an aircraft designer, civil engineer and family historian, of Polish-Lithuanian descent from the aristocratic Giedroyć family, moved to Britain in 1947; he died in December 2017. Her mother, Rosemary "Rosy" Cumpston (born 1937), is of English origin. Cherry Cake
Cherry cake is a traditional British cake. The cake consists of glacé cherries evenly suspended within a Madeira sponge. Portknockie
Portknockie ( gd, Port Chnocaidh, the hilly port) is a coastal village on the Moray Firth within Moray, Scotland. The village's name is written as Portknockies in the Old Parish Registers. This would suggest that the port's name referred to not one, but two rocky hills at the hythe - the Port Hill and the Greencastle. Nearby towns include Buckie, Findochty and Cullen. Historically in Banffshire, the village was founded in 1677 and it became a significant herring fishing port during the nineteenth century, although today only a handful of commercial inshore boats remain. Barton-upon-Humber () or Barton is a town and civil parish in North Lincolnshire, England. The population at the 2011 census was 11,066. Martha Collison (born 23 September 1996) is a British baker and food columnist. She rose to fame after competing as ''The Great British Bake Off''s youngest ever contestant, reaching the quarter-final of the fifth series at age 17.
