The Grapes, Limehouse
The Grapes is a Grade II listed public house situated directly on the north bank of the Thames in London's Limehouse area, with a veranda overlooking the water. To its landward side, the pub is found at number 76 in Narrow Street, flanked by former warehouses now converted to residential and other uses. The Grapes is owned in partnership by the actor Sir Ian McKellen, the theatre and film director Sean Mathias, and Evgeny Lebedev, publisher of the ''Evening Standard'' newspaper. History The current building dates from the 1720s and is on the site of a pub built in 1583. It was formerly a working-class tavern serving the dockers of the Limehouse Basin. In the 1930s it sold beer from the adjacent brewery owned by Taylor Walker. It survived the intense bombing of the area in World War II, and is just outside the Docklands commercial zone built in the 1980s. The Grapes were an American jam bandGrapeful head, ''Fort Worth Star-Telegram'' - March 17, 1995 - 8 STAR TIME and southern rock band band from Atlanta, who performed from 1986 to 1997. 1980s Bassist/vocalist Charlie Lonsdorf formed the band with drummer Preston Holcomb in 1986. Most of their catalogue at the time were Grateful Dead and R&B covers. Early guitarists included Danny Simmons, Johnny Tessavarie and Katie Moore of Deep Blue Sun. After the original guitarist left the band guitarist/songwriter Romin Dawson and lead guitarist Mike 'Ted' Norton joined the band. An important moment came for the band when Lonsdorf introduced his song Water To Wine, the bands first original song. Around this time they added second drummer/percussionist Steve Baird. Ashley Naylor
Ashley John Naylor (born 1970) is an Australian musician, best known for his guitar and vocals in Melbourne-based band Even.Spencer et al, (2007Naylor, Ashleyentry. Retrieved 4 February 2010. In 1987 at the age of 17, Naylor played guitar in Melbourne indie rock band The Swarm, whose bassist Tim Aylward was best known as guitarist for Mr Floppy between 1989 and 1994. He occasionally played guitar with Melbourne band Pray TV on studio recordings and also live. In 1994 he formed Even with Matthew Cotter, whom he had played with in Swarm, and bass player Wally Kempton of The Meanies. In 1995, Naylor was playing with both Even and Fragment, who later changed their name to Rail, a group fronted by Naylor's songwriting friend Danny Vertessy, turning his main focus to Even by 1998.
