''The Golden Lotus'' is a 1974 Hong Kong sex film directed and written by Li Han-hsiang, and produced by Run Run Shaw. The film stars Peter Yang, Hu Jin, Tien Lie, and Chen Ping. Hong Kong Kung fu star Jackie Chan made his film debut in this film and had a minor role as Brother Yun. It is based on the c. 1610 novel of the same name by Lanling Xiaoxiaosheng. Li Han-hsiang
Richard Li Han-hsiang (; 7 March 1926 in Huludao, Jinxi, Liaoning – 17 December 1996 in Beijing) was a Chinese film director. Li directed more than 70 films in his career beginning in the 1950s and lasting till the 1990s. His ''The Enchanting Shadow'', ''The Magnificent Concubine'', and ''Empress Wu Tse-Tien (1963 film), Empress Wu Tse-Tien'' were entered into the Cannes Film Festival in 1960, 1962, and 1963 respectively. Li also won the Golden Horse Film Festival and Awards for his work on the movie ''Xi Shi'' in 1965. Most of his movies in the 1970s and 1980s were Chinese historical dramas. Pan Jinlian
Pan Jinlian () is a fictional character in the 17th-century Chinese novel ''Jin Ping Mei'' (''The Plum in the Golden Vase)'', and a minor character in ''Water Margin'', one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature. She is an archetypal femme fatale and one of the most notorious villainesses of classical Chinese culture. She has also become the patron goddess of brothels and prostitutes. Name Pan Jinlian's name appears to be inspired by Pan Yunu, an imperial consort of the Southern Qi. Her husband, Xiao Baojuan, was obsessed with her small feet and made her dance on golden (金, ''jin'') lotuses (蓮, ''lian'') . Wong Yue (born Wong Chi-kuen; 26 October 1955 – 15 May 2008) was a Hong Kong martial arts film actor. Background Born Wong Chi-kuen in Hong Kong on 26 October 1955. Dean Shek (17 June 1949 – 20 September 2021), also known as Dean Shek Tin, was a Hong Kong film actor and producer with over 72 film credits to his name. Wu Dalang (), also translated as Wu the Elder, is a major character in the classic Chinese novel ''The Plum in the Golden Vase'', and a minor character in the ''Water Margin'', another classic. In both novels, he is murdered by his adulterous wife Pan Jinlian. A well-known figure in Chinese culture, he represents the quintessential cuckold. Wu Dalang and Pan Jinlian, as depicted in these two novels, are fictitious. The real people were nothing like the characters in these stories. Ximen Qing () is a fictional Chinese Song dynasty merchant, womanizer, and murderer in Yanggu County, Shandong. He is the male protagonist in the novel ''Jin Ping Mei'' and a minor character in the novel ''Water Margin''.
