The Golden Fish (film)
''The Golden Fish'' (french: Histoire d'un poisson rouge) is a 1959 French short film directed by Edmond Séchan. It won an Academy Awards, Oscar in 32nd Academy Awards, 1960 for Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film, Best Short Subject. Plot The film, which has a musical score but no dialogue tells of a boy, a golden fish, and a black cat. The boy leaves school, comes home to his apartment, feeds his bird, and goes out with a glass bottle and two coins. The boy sees his mother walking on the street, and goes to a festival. There a roulette booth offers fish as a prize: an aquarium is stocked with various black fish and one golden fish. The booth's sign says "''REGLEMENT Chaque gagnant a droit à un magnifique poisson exotique/les poissons ne sont pas rachetés''" (Regulation: Each winner is entitled to a magnificent exotic fish/the fish are not redeemed [for money]). Edmond Séchan
Edmond Séchan (20 September 1919 in Montpellier – 7 June 2002 in Courbevoie) was a French cinematographer and film director. Biography Passionate about image, Séchan earned a reputation as an excellent director of photography and is credited in several notable films such as '' That Man from Rio'', '' Tendre Voyou'', ''La Carapate'' and ''La Boum''. He worked with great directors ( Jean Becker, Jean-Pierre Mocky, Philippe de Broca, Pierre Étaix), but most notably with Louis Malle and Jacques-Yves Cousteau on ''The Silent World''. Attracted to directing, Séchan made two feature films in the 1960s, which were not successful. On the other hand, his short films earned him a harvest of prestigious prizes: ''Le Haricot'', (Palme d'Or du court métrage at Cannes in 1963) and ''Toine'' ( César du meilleur court métrage in 1981). Jacques Cousteau
Jacques-Yves Cousteau, (, also , ; 11 June 191025 June 1997) was a French naval officer, oceanographer, filmmaker and author. He co-invented the first successful Aqua-Lung, open-circuit SCUBA (self-contained underwater breathing apparatus). The apparatus assisted him in producing some of the first underwater documentaries. Cousteau wrote many books describing his undersea explorations. In his first book, '' The Silent World: A Story of Undersea Discovery and Adventure'', Cousteau surmised the existence of the echolocation abilities of porpoises. The book was adapted into an underwater documentary called ''The Silent World''. Co-directed by Cousteau and Louis Malle, it was one of the first films to use underwater cinematography to document the ocean depths in color.
