The Goal Rush
''The Goal Rush'' was a live ITV television programme that aired from 2001 to 2003, produced by Granada Television. The programme was broadcast on Saturdays as a rival show to Final Score on BBC One, and provided live football scores from the Premier League and The Football League. Coverage began on ITV2 and then continued on ITV1. The programme was presented by Angus Scott. ITV ran the programme during the two of the three seasons that it held the rights to show Premier League highlights. After the rights were lost, ''The Goal Rush'' was axed. Format The Goal Rush was announced in 2000 by Brian Barwick, ITV Controller of Sport. The programme was a replacement for ''Football First'' which had aired exclusively on ITV2 since its launch in late 1998. It was described as "having the style and feel of the Bloomberg Television channel". It first aired on 18 August 2001 after ITV won the rights to Premier League highlights. Angus Scott (television Presenter)
Angus Scott is an international broadcaster, journalist, university lecturer and academic. He has worked for Al Jazeera, beIN SPORTS, ITN, ITV Sport and Setanta Sports. He mainly covers football and rugby union, but has also hosted cricket and motorsport coverage. In 2021 he completed a doctorate at the University of Winchester on Al Jazeera. Early career Angus started his television career presenting local news and sport having previously worked in newspapers. He presented football shows for Granada in Manchester and Carlton. He then crossed the border to present HTV Wales rugby programmes. HTV is where Angus started his career in the 80s. He also frequently presented Carlton/LWT's ''London Tonight''. John Charles Bryan Barnes MBE (born 7 November 1963) is a former professional football player and manager. He currently works as an author, commentator and pundit for ESPN and SuperSport. Initially a quick, skilful left winger, he moved to central midfield later in his career. Barnes won two league titles with Liverpool, with whom he also won two cup finals at Wembley. He was also an FA Cup runner-up with Watford, Liverpool and Newcastle United. Barnes earned 79 international caps for England. James Martin Beglin (born 29 July 1963) is an Irish former professional footballer and current co-commentator for RTÉ, CBS Sports, BT Sport, and Premier League Productions. Playing career Shamrock Rovers Beglin played schoolboy football in his native city with Bolton and Waterford Bohs before joining Shamrock Rovers in 1980. Paul Marcellus Elliott (born 18 March 1964) is an English former footballer who played as a defender. Playing career Starting his career with Charlton Athletic in the early 1980s, Elliott signed for First Division Luton Town in 1983.
