''The Go Go Posse'' is a compilation album released in 1988. The album consists of nine original songs recorded by prominent Washington, D.C.-based go-go bands and hip hop artists, and includes the nonviolence, anti-violence song "D.C. Go-go
Go-go is a music subgenre, subgenre of funk music with an emphasis on specific rhythmic patterns, and live audience Call and response (music), call and response. Go-go was originated by African-American musicians in the Washington, D.C. area during the mid-60s to late-70s. Benny Anthony Harley (September 26, 1963 – May 30, 2010), better known by his stage name Little Benny, was an American trumpet player, who was a part of the Washington D.C.-based go-go band Rare Essence. He has been called one of the founding fathers of the genre. Early life Benny Anthony Harley was born on September 26, 1963, in Washington D.C. His father Frank Harley sang in a band called "Bell Chorda". He grew up playing the electric guitar, but soon grew enamored by the trumpet. Lawrence "Kris" Parker (born August 20, 1965), better known by his stage names KRS-One (; an abbreviation of "Knowledge Reigns Supreme Over Nearly Everyone") and Teacha, is an American rapper from New York City. He rose to prominence as part of the hip hop group Boogie Down Productions, which he formed with DJ Scott La Rock in the mid-1980s. KRS-One is known for his songs, "Sound of da Police", "Love's Gonna Get'cha (Material Love)", and "My Philosophy". Experience Unlimited (also known as simply E.U.) is a Washington, D.C.-based go-go/funk band that enjoyed its height of popularity in the 1980s and early 1990s. Fronted by lead singer/bassist Gregory "Sugar Bear" Elliot, the group has had a fluctuating membership over the years, but they have maintained a fairly loyal following. History The band's biggest hit was 1988's "Da Butt," which appeared on the soundtrack for the Spike Lee film ''School Daze''. The song charted at number 35 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. Following the Spike Lee soundtrack success the band signed a deal with Virgin Records and scored two additional Top Billboard Hits.
