The Glad Fact
''The Glad Fact'' is the debut studio album by experimental rock band Dirty Projectors. Like other Dirty Projectors albums, ''The Glad Fact'' contain recurring symbols of finches and cars. Most songs are closer to the style of ''The Graceful Fallen Mango'' than the heavier bass and glitch-style songs of ''The Getty Address'' or simple ballads on ''Slaves' Graves and Ballads''. Western Vinyl issued the album as both a digipak CD and a 12" vinyl; the vinyl included an unlisted bonus track between "Ground Underfoot" and "Spirit-Future Medley". Both versions feature the image of a naked man sitting down, although the CD has the band's name on the front whereas the vinyl has it on the back. Dirty Projectors
Dirty Projectors is an American indie rock band from Brooklyn, New York, formed in 2002. The band is the project of singer-songwriter David Longstreth, who has served as the band's sole constant member throughout numerous line-up changes. The band's current line-up consists of Longstreth, alongside Mike Daniel Johnson (drums), Maia Friedman (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Felicia Douglass (vocals, percussion, keyboards) and Kristin Slipp (vocals, keyboards). David Longstreth
David Longstreth (born December 17, 1981) is an American singer and songwriter. He is the lead singer and guitarist for the band Dirty Projectors. Biography Longstreth was born in Southbury, Connecticut. Longstreth attended Yale University and majored in music shortly before dropping out halfway through his second year. He stated that "he rarely ventured out of his dorm room. He found himself completely absorbed in making his own music, though there wasn’t really anyone to play it for." After dropping out, he moved in with his brother in Portland, Oregon and worked on his first album ''The Graceful Fallen Mango'', which he released in 2002. Shortly after completing the album, Longstreth returned to Yale to finish his degree and began making music under the ''Dirty Projectors'' title. ''Morning Better Last!'' is a compilation album released in September 2003. It brings together three tapes recorded by David Longstreth in the period 2001 to 2002. A year later they were compiled and released by States Rights Records on CD-R and as a digital download from iTunes. The album features guest appearances by Hank Miller, Liz Tung and Lucy Greene. ''The Graceful Fallen Mango'' is an album by Dave Longstreth. The album is a collection of tunes recorded in Longstreth's bedroom on a 4-track machine and in his brother's basement on a computer. The Getty Address
''The Getty Address'' is an album by American experimental rock group Dirty Projectors. The album is a concept album and is described as "a glitch opera" about musician Don Henley, although it also explores themes like ancient Mexico, post- 9/11 America, and oil. Background and recording The album boasts over 25 musicians on it, most of whom contributed to the orchestral and choral backing of the album. These parts were recorded at Yale University as well as other locations in New Haven, Connecticut over a period spanning five months and were chopped up digitally to create the backings of the album. Dave Longstreth then overdubbed his own vocals, guitar, bass, and other instruments to create the songs on the album. Although the lyrics have been described as gibberish, the words actually do tell a narrative beginning with Don Henley contemplating suicide, and ending with a new installment of Longstreth's songs involving brown finches.
