''The Girl Who Ran Wild'' is a 1922 American comedy-drama film directed by Rupert Julian. It is a black and white silent film released by Universal which is based on the 1863 novella ''M’liss: An Idyll of Red Mountain'' by Bret Harte. It is a remake of the 1918 film '' M’Liss''. The film was written by George C. Hull and features cast such as Gladys Walton (as M’liss), Marc Robbins (“Bummer” Smith), and Vernon Steele (The Schoolmaster). It is a western melodrama which was released on October 9, 1922. It was filmed in Seven Oaks, California. Plot As described in a film magazine, Melissa Bummer (Walton), whom everyone called "Old Man Bummer's Wildcat," told the world that she could take care of herself after her Dad (Robbins) died and left her alone in a shack in the hills. Rupert Julian
Rupert Julian (born Thomas Percival Hayes; 25 January 1879 – 27 December 1943) was a New Zealand cinema actor, director, writer and producer. During his career, Julian directed 60 films and acted in over 90 films. He is best remembered for directing Lon Chaney, Sr., Lon Chaney in The Phantom of the Opera (1925 film), ''The Phantom of the Opera'' (1925). He also directed ''The Cat Creeps (1930 film), The Cat Creeps'' (1930), a sound remake of ''The Cat and the Canary (1927 film), The Cat and the Canary'' (1927), which is now considered a lost film, with only two minutes of footage remaining in the 1932 Universal comedy short film ''Boo! Seven Oaks is an unincorporated mountain community in the San Bernardino Mountains. It sits by the Santa Ana River, 7 miles northeast of Angelus Oaks. Seven Oaks Road leads to the neighboring community of Pinezanita, 3.5 miles west of Seven Oaks. It is located 4 miles off Highway 38. It is a resort community which was founded in 1845. Lucille Ricksen (born Ingeborg Myrtle Elisabeth Ericksen; August 22, 1910 – March 13, 1925) was an American motion picture actress during the silent film era. She died of tuberculosis on March 13, 1925 at the age of 14. Early life Ingeborg Myrtle Elisabeth Eriksen was born in Chicago on August 22, 1910. Her parents were Danish immigrants named Samuel and Ingeborg Nielsen Ericksen. Although Lucille Ricksen's birth year has been stated to be earlier, particularly as she starred in films as a woman, her birth certificate states 1910 as her true birth year. She had an older brother, Marshall, who was born in 1907 in Chicago, who also appeared in early silent films. She became known as Lucille Ricksen. Lloyd Whitlock
Lloyd Whitlock (January 2, 1891 – January 8, 1966) was a prolific American actor who began working during Hollywood's silent era. Born in 1891, he appeared in nearly 200 films between 1916 and 1949. Distinguished by his height and stature, he became especially known for playing heavies in B-movie westerns. Biography Lloyd was born in Springfield, Missouri, to James Whitlock and Mary Wadlow. After appearing in dozens of silent films, Lloyd successfully made the transition to the talkies, appearing on-screen through the early 1940s. He married Mary Gibsone, a Canadian citizen, in Los Angeles in 1919. The pair had a daughter together. Lloyd died in 1966 in Los Angeles. Nelson McDowell
Nelson McDowell (August 14, 1870 – November 3, 1947) was an American actor. He appeared in more than 170 films between 1917 and 1945. McDowell was born in Greenville, Missouri. His parents were N. B. McDowell and Anne Hampton. He attended Leadville (Colorado) High School and Normal College in Freemont, Nebraska, before earning A.B. and D.D.S. degrees from Northwestern University in Chicago. Prior to embarking on a theatrical career, McDowell had a career in dentistry. In 1901, he was appointed professor of orthodontics at the University of Illinois. In 1902, McDowell acted on stage in Chicago and in Lincoln, Nebraska. His film debut came in 1910 with Biograph. McDowell died in Hollywood, California after he shot himself.
