The Ghost (Faroese Band)
The Ghost is a Faroese electropop duo consisting of Filip Mortensen on vocals and Urbanus Olsen on electronics. Following their appearance at the Iceland Airwaves music festival, held in Reykjavík, Iceland, the duo received a recording contract with the British Sunday Best record label. The duo also appeared at the G! Festival, held in Syðrugøta, Faroe Islands, in 2009 and 2010. In addition, they have performed as the warm-up band for The Wombats, a British indie-rock band; Ladytron, an English electronic band; and Vampire Weekend, an American indie-rock band. In 2010, they released their debut album ''War Kids''. Faroese people or Faroe Islanders ( fo, føroyingar; da, færinger) are a North Germanic ethnic group and nation native to the Faroe Islands. The Faroese are of mixed Norse and Gaelic origins. About 21,000 Faroese live in neighbouring countries, particularly in Denmark, Iceland and Norway. Most Faroese are citizens of the Kingdom of Denmark, in which the Faroe Islands are a constituent nation. Faroese music is primarily vocal, accompanied by the fiddle (which arrived in the 17th century) and European dances like the minuet and polka. During the twentieth century choirs have played an important role in the musical history of the Faroes, and some of the best known current choirs are Tarira, Havnarkórið, Tórshavnar Manskór, Ljómur, Fuglafjarðar Gentukór, and the choirs situated in Copenhagen: Húsakórið and Mpiri.
