''The George Wallace Show'' was an Australian television series which aired in 1960. Starring George Wallace Jnr, it was a variety series aired in a daytime time-slot on Sydney station TCN-9. Aired at 2:00PM, it aired against ''Your Home'' on ATN-7, while ABN-2 did not offer any programming until 2:30PM. Little information is available on this series. George Wallace Jr, who was the son of very popular Australian comedian George Wallace, later was a regular on the Brisbane-produced series '' Theatre Royal'', and was a popular comedian in his own right. George Leonard Wallace
George Leonard Wallace known as George Wallace Jnr (16 May 1918 – 30 September 1968), was an Australian comedian, vaudevillian, and television personality. The son of George Stephenson Wallace, he became a famous comedian in his own right. He had considerable success on television in the late 1950s, and 1960s, winning Logie Awards in 1963 and 1964. George Wallace Jnr's television show, Theatre Royal, which originated in Brisbane, won six consecutive Logie Awards from 1962 to 1967. Early and personal life George Leonard Wallace was born in Walkerston, Queensland to George Stevenson "Onkus" Wallace, a comedian, and Margarita Edith Emma, née Nicholas. His father was a well-known comedian, and George junior appeared at age three on stage in Sydney with his father. ''Your Home'' was an early Australian television show that aired on Sydney station ATN-7 from 3 December 1956 to circa 3 September 1964. It was one of the first series produced by the station. Hosted by Del Cartwright, the series was aimed at housewives of the period. Originally broadcast five days a week, it was eventually cut back to four days. Running time was originally thirty minutes but eventually became sixty minutes. Examples of format The episode aired 10 September 1957 featured a demonstration of judo, while Cartwright and Marjorie Long discussed various uses of vegetables. In the episode broadcast 8 October 1957, there was an appearance by the cast of ''Pajama Game'', an interview with choreographer Betty Pounder, and tumbling act by the Flying Garlands. In the 12 November 1957 episode, Cartwright interviewed dancers George and Mavis Weiss, interviewed Cedric Ashton of the Rockdale Opera Company, while someone named Mr. Cordony created a hairstyle for teenagers. ABN (TV Station)
ABN is the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's television station in Sydney. The station began broadcasting on 5 November 1956. Its original studios were located in Gore Hill and were in use up until March 2004, when they were co-located with ABC Radio, Radio Australia, ABC-TV Set Construction and ABC Australia at the Corporation's headquarters in the inner city suburb of Ultimo. Its main transmitter, however, remains at Gore Hill. The station can be received throughout the state through a number of relay transmitters, as well as satellite transmission on the Optus Aurora platform. George Wallace (Australian Comedian)
George Stephenson "Onkus" Wallace (4 June 1895 – 19 October 1960), was an Australian comedian, actor, vaudevillian and radio personality. During the early to mid-20th century, he was one of the most famous and successful Australian comedians on both stage and screen, with screen, song and revue sketch writing amongst his repertoire. Wallace was a small tubby man with goggle eyes, a mobile face and croaky voice who appeared in trademark baggy trousers, checkered shirt and felt hat. His career as one of Australia's most popular comedians spanned four decades from the 1920s to 1960 and encompassed stage, radio and film entertainment. Ken G. Hall, who directed him in two films, wrote in his autobiography that George Wallace was the finest Australian comedian he had known. Theatre Royal (Australian TV Series)
''Theatre Royal'' is a Logie award-winning Australian vaudeville variety television show produced at BTQ-7 Queensland from 1961 to 1968. Overview George Wallace Jnr was the show's main host and star attraction. The show reproduced the stage of the defunct Theatre Royal in Brisbane, complete with curtains, footlights, stage props, dancing girls, and camera shots replicating the ambience of a bygone era. In 1962 Gladys Moncrieff made guest appearances on the show. Other people appearing on the show included Brian Cahill, Dick McCann, Gay Kayler and Rowena Wallace.
