Ontario Place
Ontario Place is an entertainment venue, event venue, and park in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The venue is located on three artificial landscaped islands just off-shore in Lake Ontario, south of Exhibition Place, and southwest of Downtown Toronto. It opened on May 22, 1971, and operated as a theme park centered around Ontario themes and family attractions until 2012 when the Government of Ontario announced that it would close for redevelopment. It has since reopened as a park without admission but without several of the old attractions. The Government of Ontario is currently considering further redevelopment of the site. Since the closure as a theme park, several of the venue's facilities have remained open, once reopened, and one section was redeveloped. The Budweiser Stage operates during the summer season. Flying Bulgar Klezmer Band
The Flying Bulgars (formerly the Flying Bulgar Klezmer Band) was a Toronto-based Music of Canada, Canadian band, which played music rooted in the Klezmer, Jewish music of Eastern Europe. The band's style incorporated elements of rock music, rock, jazz and Salsa music, salsa. 'Bulgar' in the group's name refers to a dance form, not an ethnic group. The band's final line-up consisted of David Buchbinder (trumpet), Dave Wall (of the Bourbon Tabernacle Choir) (guitar), Max Senitt (drums), Peter Lutek (woodwinds), Tania Gill (piano) and Victor Bateman (bass). The Bulgars recorded five CDs and received three Juno Award, Juno nominations. They are the only Klezmer band to have created a music video which received airplay on MuchMusic. The Juno Awards of 1992, representing Canadian music industry achievements of the previous year, were awarded on 29 March 1992 in Toronto at a ceremony in the O'Keefe Centre. Rick Moranis was the host for the ceremonies, which were broadcast on CBC Television from 9 pm Eastern. Nominations were announced 12 February 1992. Bryan Adams was nominated in 7 categories to set a Juno record, while Tom Cochrane received nominations in 6. Adams sparked controversy in the Canadian music industry several months earlier when he openly criticised Canadian content regulations when his album project, ''Waking Up the Neighbours'', was disqualified as Canadian for radio airplay purposes. That album was created largely with the help of non-Canadian producer Robert John "Mutt" Lange, therefore the songs fell below the legal Canadian content threshold. The Parachute Club
The Parachute Club was a Canadian Canadians (french: Canadiens) are people identified with the country of Canada. This connection may be residential, legal, historical or cultural. For most Canadians, many (or all) of these connections exist and are collectively the source of ... band formed in Toronto in 1982. They released three top 40 hits in Canada between 1983 and 1987, including Rise Up (Parachute Club song), "Rise Up", "At the Feet of the Moon" and "Love Is Fire" (which featured guest duet vocals from John Oates).
