The Game That Kills
''The Game That Kills'' is a 1937 American mystery sport film directed by D. Ross Lederman and starring Charles Quigley and Rita Hayworth. Plot After his brother is killed on the ice during a hockey game, Alex Ferguson, convinced it was no accident, goes undercover as a new player to discover the truth. Alex falls for Betty Holland, the coach's daughter. He ultimately learns that team owner Maxwell is in cahoots with gamblers, as are a couple of his players, and coach Joe Holland is in debt to them. Betty takes a job at a newspaper and endeavors to clear her dad's name while Alex survives a dangerous game, followed by a confrontation with the crooks. Peter Paul Fix (March 13, 1901 – October 14, 1983) was an American film and television character actor who was best known for his work in Westerns. Fix appeared in more than 100 movies and dozens of television shows over a 56-year career between 1925 and 1981. Fix was best known for portraying Marshal Micah Torrance, opposite Chuck Connors's character in ''The Rifleman'' from 1958 to 1963. Richard Michael Wessel (April 20, 1913 – April 20, 1965) was an American film actor who appeared in more than 270 films between 1935 and 1966. He is best remembered for his only leading role, a chilling portrayal of strangler Harry "Cueball" Lake in '' Dick Tracy vs. Cueball'' (1946), and for his appearances as comic villains opposite The Three Stooges. Biography Wessel was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. His burly frame established him as a character player in feature films of the 1930s and '40s. John Edward Tyrrell (December 7, 1900September 20, 1949) was an American film actor. He appeared in over 250 films between 1935 and 1947, known for his numerous appearances in the Three Stooges, in a total of 28 shorts with Curly Howard as a third stooge. Career Tyrrell was 16 years old when he became involved in vaudeville, part of the team Tyrrell and Mack. Like many actors in the Stooge comedies, Tyrrell was a salaried contract player.
