The Gambling Fool
''The Gambling Fool'' is a 1925 silent Western film directed by J. P. McGowan starring Franklyn Farnum. Plot As described in a film magazine review, an honest gambler arrives at a tough town to meet the hard-hearted owner of a ranch. He wins the ranch and pays the back taxes on it in time to prevent it from being auctioned off. He finds an infant in the ranch house, rescuing it from the arch villain. He also protects the infant's aunt. Later, he overcomes the villains and triumphs in romance. Ralph Yearsley
Ralph Yearsley (October 6, 1896 – December 4, 1928) was a British-born character actor who worked in Hollywood films. Early life and education Born in London, England, he was trained in a medical school, but left for the United States to pursue a career in the film industry. Career He made his motion picture debut in 1921 in a secondary but good role in the Goldwyn Pictures silent film comedy '' Pardon My French'' directed by Sidney Olcott. That same year he appeared as Saul "Little Buzzard" Hatburn in ''Tol'able David'', directed by Henry King for Inspiration Pictures. The acclaimed film was voted a Photoplay magazine's medal of honor. Over the next eight years, Yearsley appeared in another twenty films, in secondary or minor roles. One of his more notable roles was in Harold Lloyd's 1927 film ''The Kid Brother''. Ruth Dwyer (actress)
Ruth Dwyer (January 25, 1898 – March 2, 1978) was an American film actress. She had a number of starring roles in the silent era, most famously as Buster Keaton's leading lady in ''Seven Chances'' (1925). Dwyer mostly retired in 1928 and played a number of uncredited roles in sound films, but retired from the film business completely in the 1940s. Dwyer's entertainment career began with her working as a dancer in New York. Her performance in the chorus line in an off-Broadway production in 1919 led to her going to Hollywood. Her film debut came in the serial ''The Evil Eye''. Dwyer was married to actor and talent agent William Jackie until his death in 1954. They operated the Ruth Dwyer Agency in San Francisco, helping people obtain parts in films and television shows. Dwyer died on March 2, 1978, at the Motion Picture Country House and Hospital in Woodland Hills, California. Franklyn Farnum (born William Smith; June 5, 1878 – July 4, 1961) was an American character actor and Hollywood extra who appeared in at least 1,100 films. He was also cast in more films that won the Academy Award for Best Picture than any other performer in American film industry. He was also credited as Frank Farnum. Life and career Farnum was born in 1878 in Boston, Massachusetts, and became a vaudeville actor at the age of twelve. He was featured in a number of theatrical and musical productions by the time he entered silent films near the age of 40.
