The Forsaken (1937 Film)
''The Forsaken'' (French:'' Les réprouvés'') is a 1937 French war drama film directed by Jacques Séverac and starring Jean Servais, Janine Crispin and Pierre Mingand. It was based on a novel of the same title by André Armandy.Goble p.14 It was shot at the Victorine Studios in Nice. The film's sets were designed by the art director Jean Lafitte. Synopsis A group of Foreign Legion soldiers serving in French North Africa on the edge of the Sahara Desert are attacked by an overwhelming enemy force. Jacques Séverac (1902–1982) was a French film director and screenwriter. He directed 21 films between 1928 and 1962. French North Africa (french: Afrique du Nord française, sometimes abbreviated to ANF) is the term often applied to the territories controlled by France in the North African Maghreb during the colonial era, namely Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia. Poussard (actor)
Horace Remi Poussard (11 June 1829 – 12 September 1898) was a French violinist and composer. Career Poussard was born in Château-Gontier, the son of music teacher and conductor Charles Francois Poussard. He studied at the Conservatoire de Paris, graduating with the First Class prize in violin in 1849 with a performance of a Viotti Concerto (reviewed in ''La Vigie de l'Ouest'', 14 September 1849). In the 1850s he began his career as a professional violinist with concerts in Paris, Vienna, and Constantinople. He also travelled through Hungary, Greece, Wallachia, and the British Isles. In 1860 he appeared in London, along with a fellow French cellist, René Douay. In 1861 Poussard and Douay sailed to Australia, and gave their first concerts there in Melbourne. Nino Pavese (10 April 1904 – 21 December 1979) was an Italian actor and voice actor. Biography Born in Asti and the younger brother of actor and voice actor Luigi Pavese, he began his career on stage with a theatrical troupe in the early 1930s before moving on to cinema. Gaston Modot (31 December 1887 – 20 February 1970) was a French actor. For more than 50 years he performed for the cinema working with a number of great French directors. Biography Modot lived in Montmartre at the beginning of the 20th century where he met Picasso and Modigliani. In 1909 he started his career with Gaumont and for the following 20 years he covered all silent film genres. In 1917 he was the main actor in Abel Gance's ''Mater dolorosa''. Gina Manès (born Blanche Moulin; 7 April 1893 – 6 September 1989) was a French film actress and a major star of French silent cinema. After an early appearance in a Louis Feuillade film, she had significant roles in films of Germaine Dulac and Jean Epstein, including ''Cœur fidèle''. Pierre Frédéric Magnier (February 22, 1869 - October 15, 1959) was a French actor who began on the stage in the 1890s and became a prominent silent film actor in France. He was the second actor to portray ''Cyrano de Bergerac'' in any film in 1925. He continued acting until the 1950s.
