The Forest (2005 Film)
''The Forest'' ( km, ព្រៃអាគម, Prey Akôm) is a 2005 Cambodian monster thriller film directed by Heng Tola, the director of Khmer Blockbuster films, such as '' Gratefulness'' and ''Neang Neath''. It was nominated for many awards in The Khmer national film festival but won for best special effects. Plot A group of young archaeologists go into the deep forest in Ratanakiri province to search for the old temple that was abandoned many years ago. As they go through the forest, at first they arrive at a local village but when one female Archeologist has a vision that the group of archeologist are involved in the ambush she warns the others of her vision, but they fail to listen. Later they are given a tour guide to help them find their way through the forest, but guide dies of a mysterious snake bite. Heng Tola
Heng Tola is a Cambodian film director and producer. Some of the films he has worked on include ''Villa Horror'', ''Ghost Banana Tree'', ''The Haunted House (2005 film), Pteah khmaoch tinh'', and ''Gratefulness''. Background Tola founded the film production company Campro Production with some of his friends in 2003. He was also the managing director of Kirirom Cinema which was located on Sihanouk Boulevard. He is the president of Ek Phnom Cinema which is located at Borey Raksmey, Battambang Province. Career His film ''Gratefulness'' which starred Ly Chan Siha was an award winning film. His film ''Ghost Banana Tree'', released in 2004 was the fourth Campro production film. ''Gratefulness'', also ''Katanho'' ( km, កតញ្ញូ, Kâtânhnhu), is a Cambodian drama film, based on a true life of a young girl who lived in Phnom Penh. The film was considered one of the best films of the year in Cambodia. The film had a highly successful theatrical run and received several awards at the Khmer film festival. These included the best actress award for Ly Chan Siha. ''The Snake King's Grandchild'' ( km, ចៅពស់កេងកង, , also ''Snaker 2'' and ''Snake's love'') is a 2006 Cambodian Romance horror film, a sequel to a 2001 film, ''The Snake King's Child''. It is a successful and award-winning in the khmer national film festival where it received 4 awards including best actress. Plot The sequel to The Snake King's Child, after Vaha and Soriya married, they gave birth to a boy and named him, Mek. However, Vaha, then, married another woman and gave birth to another boy named Sok but the new wife got jealous to Soriya and stole her ring. Suddenly Soriya turned to the snake and Vaha dropped dead by a heart attack. The new wife took everything and blamed Mek as the servant. Snaker
''The Snake King's Child'' ( km, កូនពស់កេងកង, ''Koun Puoh Kengkang'', also known as ''Snaker'' and ''Ghost Wife 2'') is a 2001 Cambodian-Thai horror film directed by Fai Sam Ang, based on a Cambodian myth about the half-human daughter of a snake god. It was produced as a sequel of the 1970 movie ''The Snake King's Wife''. It is the first full-length feature film for cinema to be produced in Cambodia since before the Khmer Rouge era. The special effect of the lead character's head being full of writhing snakes was achieved by gluing live snakes to a cap worn by the actress. ''The Crocodile'' ( km, នេសាទក្រពើ, ; ) is a 2005 Cambodian horror-action film written and directed by Mao Ayuth. First released in July 2005, it had been periodically re-released in Cambodian cinemas since July 2007, and remains unreleased on DVD or digitally. Plot A group of villagers live by a river heavily infested with crocodiles which have killed many of their relatives. Cambodian Horror Films
Horror films in Cambodia, first popular in the 1970s, have received renewed attention in Cambodian film making since the resurgence of the local industry in 2003. Horror is one of three popular genres into which most Cambodian films can be loosely grouped, the other two being period pieces and melodrama/romantic drama. The fledgling Cambodian industry of the mid 2000s looked to capitalize on the world-wide popularity of Japanese horror films which have heavily influenced Cambodian horror films. Common themes are ghost or spirit hauntings, possession, folk mythology and revenge by supernatural means. The storytelling takes a slower pace than Western horror and relies on suspense, a pervasive sense of doom and dread, and psychologically disturbing events and situations.
