''The Five-Forty'' (Hungarian: ''Öt óra 40'') is a 1939 Hungarian mystery thriller film directed by Andre de Toth and starring Maria von Tasnady, Margit Makay and Ferenc Kiss. It was shot at the Hunnia Studios in Budapest. The film's sets were designed by the art director Márton Vincze. It premiered at the Venice Film Festival.Petrucci p.686 Synopsis In Paris a judge Henry Tessier is investigating an appeal for divorce from Marion, whose fortune hunter husband Robert is estranged from her. When Robert is then suspected of murdering opera singer Eleonora Taccani, Marion comes to his defence, leading Henry to question her motives. Andre De Toth
Endre Antal Miksa DeToth, better known as Andre de Toth (born Endre Antal Mihály Tóth; May 15, 1913 – October 27, 2002), was a Hungarian-American film director, born and raised in Makó, Austria-Hungary. He directed the 3D film House of Wax (1953 film), ''House of Wax'', despite being unable to see in 3D himself, having lost an eye at an early age. Upon naturalization as a United States citizen in 1945, he took Endre Antal Miksa de Toth as his legal name. Early life Born in 1913 as Sasvári farkasfalvi tóthfalusi Tóth Endre Antal Mihály, de Toth earned a degree in law from the Eötvös Loránd University, Royal Hungarian Pázmány Péter Science's University in Budapest in the early 1930s. He garnered acclaim for plays written as a college student, acquiring the mentorship of Ferenc Molnár and becoming part of the theater scene in Budapest. Vali Rácz
Vali Rácz (born Valéria Rácz; 25 December 191112 February 1997) was a successful Hungarian singer and film actress, the darling of the Hungarian public. She finished the Franz Liszt Music Academy in Budapest 1932. Between 1933 and 1934, she played at City Theatre and then at Hungarian Theatre. In 1936, she sang at 'Terézkörúti Színpad' and at City Theatre for three years. After 1945 she was a member of Royal Revue-theatre, Medgyaszay Theatre, then Kamara Varieté. She acted in twenty films, but was primarily a chanteuse, giving solo concerts at the Music Academy and Vigadó concert hall, as well as appearing regularly at the Hangli Kioszk nightclub. She left Hungary with her husband Peter Halász and children, Mónika and Valér, in the wake of the Hungarian Revolution of 1956.
