The Fernleigh Track
The Fernleigh Track is a multi-use rail trail near Belmont in New South Wales. The track was constructed in the way of the former Belmont railway line. The project is a joint venture between Newcastle City Council and City of Lake Macquarie. The track extends from Adamstown to Belmont over an approximate distance of . The former railway closed in December 1991. The first section between Adamstown and Burwood Road opened in 2003. Construction has continued in stages with the final section between Jewells and Belmont completed in March 2011. The abandoned Belmont railway line was a coal haulage and passenger rail line from Adamstown to Belmont. In 1880 a rail line was built to Redhead with the line being extended to Belmont in 1916. At one stage there was talk of extending the line to Swansea. A feature of the conversion of the former railway to a multi-use trail is the retention of many industrial heritage features. Adamstown Railway Station, New South Wales
Adamstown railway station is located on the Main Northern railway line, Main Northern line in New South Wales, Australia. It serves the southern Newcastle, New South Wales, Newcastle suburb of Adamstown, New South Wales, Adamstown, and was opened on 15 August 1887. As part of the electrification of the line in the early 1980s, new station buildings were built, the western relief line and Platform 3 removed, and the 1939 built signal box on Platform 1 that used to control movements to the Belmont line decommissioned on 4 December 1983. Until December 1991, the Belmont railway line, New South Wales, Belmont line diverged to the south-east of the station. Kahibah Railway Station
Kahibah is a suburb of the City of Lake Macquarie, Greater Newcastle in New South Wales, Australia, located from Newcastle's central business district. Kahibah is the closest suburb to Glenrock Lagoon, and is drained by Flaggy and Little Flaggy creeks which flow into Glenrock Lagoon 2 km to the east. The suburb's name is from the Aboriginal name word "Ky-yee-bah", which meant either a place for games or to be active and eager. The local Aboriginal people, the Awabakal people, had camps in the area of Glenrock Lagoon, and named the area "Pillapay-Kullaitaran", meaning "Valley of the palms".
