''The Farmer Takes a Wife'' is a 1953 Technicolor musical comedy film starring Betty Grable and Dale Robertson. The picture is a remake of the 1935 film of the same name which starred Janet Gaynor and Henry Fonda. Grable and Dale Robertson first appeared together in the movie ''Call Me Mister'' (1951). Plot During the 19th century, where Molly Larkins (Betty Grable), the girlfriend of rough-and-tumble canal-boat captain Jotham Klore (John Carroll) she hires mild-mannered farmer Daniel Harrow (Dale Robertson) to work on the boat. Molly and Dan fall in love and marry. Henry Levin (film Director)
Henry Levin (5 June 1909 – 1 May 1980) began as a stage actor and director but was most notable as an American film director of over fifty feature films. His best known credits were ''Jolson Sings Again'' (1949), ''Journey to the Center of the Earth (1959 film), Journey to the Center of the Earth'' (1959) and ''Where the Boys Are'' (1960). Biography Acting Levin began as an actor. He was on Broadway in ''Somewhere in France'' (1941) and appeared in summer stock in ''Cuckoos on the Hearth'' (1941). He worked for Brock Pemberton stage productions. Columbia Pictures Dialogue Director In May 1943 Levin signed a contract to work at Columbia Pictures. Henry Jaynes Fonda (May 16, 1905 – August 12, 1982) was an American actor. He had a career that spanned five decades on Broadway and in Hollywood. Nancy Abbate Caldwell (born ) is an American former actress and dancer who was a Mousketeer on the first season of ''The Mickey Mouse Club''. She left entertaining to become a dance teacher.
