The Evie Hayes Show
''The Evie Hayes Show'' was an Australian television variety series starring vocalist Evie Hayes. The half-hour series debuted on 4 July 1960 and ran a season of eight episodes on Melbourne station ABV-2, and was also shown on ABN-2 in Sydney (it is not known if it was shown on ABC's stations in other cities). It is worth noting that ABC variety series of the era had intentionally shorter seasons than those on commercial television in Australia. The series aired live, with musical backing by the ABC Melbourne Dance Band. Other performers who appeared on the series included Reg Grey, Joan Clarke, Raymond McDonald, Verona Cappadona, Frankie Davidson Francis Joseph Davidson (12 January 1934 − 22 July 2022) was an Australian entertainer who had several hit records in the 1960s, appeared on many TV variety shows, and acted in several Australian television police dramas, including ''Matlock ..., The Unichords, Alan Eddy, Annette Klooger, Barry Purcell, Will Mahoney, June Barton ... Variety show, also known as variety arts or variety entertainment, is entertainment made up of a variety of acts including musical theatre, musical performances, sketch comedy, magic (illusion), magic, acrobatics, juggling, and ventriloquism. It is normally introduced by a Master of Ceremonies, compère (master of ceremonies) or Television presenter, host. The variety format made its way from the Victorian era stage in Britain and America to radio and then television. Variety shows were a staple of English language television from the late 1940s into the 1980s. While still widespread in some parts of the world, such as in the United Kingdom with the ''Royal Variety Performance'', and South Korea with ''Running Man (South Korean TV series), Running Man'', the proliferation of multichannel television and evolving viewer tastes have affected the popularity of variety shows in the United States.
