Nina Quartero (born Gladys Quartararo; March 17, 1908 – November 23, 1985) was an American actress whose career spanned from 1929 to 1943. Career Born in 1908 in Mount Vernon, New York, as Gladys Quartararo, she came from a close family and was the youngest of seven children. She often played supporting roles and sometimes a love interest for the lead male actor. In ''One Stolen Night'' (1928) Quartero was cast with Betty Bronson and William Collier. The story concerns a British World War I soldier who comes to the assistance of an enslaved dancer. Julia Swayne Gordon (born Sarah Victoria Smith; October 29, 1878 – May 28, 1933) was an American actress who appeared in at least 228 films between 1908 and 1933. Early years Gordon was born in Columbus, Ohio, to Louis and Anna Smith and was educated there. She went to Denver to study dramatics under Jessie Bonstelle. Career Gordon moved to New York and acted in stock theater, after which, she performed with Henrietta Crosman and James A. Herne. Gordon's work in film began in 1905 with the Edison Company, and in 1908 she moved to Vitagraph Studios. In 1911 she starred in Vitagraph's screen portrayal of the Lady Godiva legend. Perhaps her most memorable performance, however, is as Richard Arlen's mother in the World War I silent film ''Wings'' (1927), which won the first Academy Award for Best Picture. Josef Swickard
Josef Swickard (26 June 1866 – 1 March 1940) was a Prussian-born veteran stage and screen character actor, who had toured with stock companies in Europe, South Africa, and South America. Career Swickard emigrated to the United States from Germany in 1882. He was a stage actor several years before entering films with D.W. Griffith in 1912 and by 1914 was playing supporting roles for Mack Sennett. He appeared in Charles Chaplin's ''Laughing Gas'' and ''Caught in a Cabaret''. He remained with Sennett until 1917, when he settled into his prolific career of playing mostly aristocratic characters.
