The Electronic Anthology Project
The Electronic Anthology Project began as the idea of Built to Spill bassist Brett Nelson. Always having loved and been greatly influenced by 1980s new wave music, he wondered what a guitar-driven band like Built to Spill would sound like if made a little more new wave (circa 1982). The EP was released on March 19, 2010. A second collection of re-imagined tracks were issued for Record Store Day on April 21, 2012. This time the release featured songs by indie rock band Dinosaur Jr. The album, called simply, "The Electronic Anthology Project of Dinosaur Jr.", featured synthesizers and programmed beats by Nelson and vocals by Dinosaur Jr.'s J Mascis. There followed a collaboration with Death Cab for Cutie, with a re-imagining of two songs. The Electronic Anthology Project EP track listing # I Dim Our Angst in Agony ("Goin' Against Your Mind" from You in Reverse, 2006) # Age I Felt ("Get a Life" from Ultimate Alternative Wavers, 1993) # At the Where ("The Weather" from Ancient M ...

New Wave Music
New wave is a loosely defined music genre that encompasses pop-oriented styles from the late 1970s and the 1980s. It was originally used as a catch-all for the various styles of music that emerged after punk rock, including punk itself. Later, critical consensus favored "new wave" as an umbrella term involving many popular music styles of the era, including power pop, synth-pop, ska revival, and more specific forms of punk rock that were less abrasive. It may also be viewed as a more accessible counterpart of post-punk. Common characteristics of new wave music include a humorous or quirky pop approach, the use of electronic sounds, and a distinctive visual style in music videos and fashion. In the early 1980s, virtually every new pop/rock act – and particularly those that employed synthesizers – were tagged as "new wave". Although new wave shares punk's do-it-yourself philosophy, the artists were more influenced by the styles of the 1950s along with the lighter s ...

Dinosaur Jr
Dinosaur Jr. is an American rock band formed in Amherst, Massachusetts, in 1984, originally simply called Dinosaur until legal issues forced a change in name. The band was founded by J Mascis (guitar, vocals, primary songwriter), Lou Barlow (bass, vocals), and Murph (drums). After three albums on independent labels, the band earned a reputation as one of the formative influences on American alternative rock. Creative tension led to Mascis firing Barlow, who later formed Sebadoh and Folk Implosion. His replacement, Mike Johnson, came aboard for three major-label albums. Murph eventually quit, with Mascis taking over drum duties on the band's albums before the group disbanded in 1997. The original lineup reformed in 2005, releasing five albums thereafter. Mascis's drawling vocals and distinct guitar sound, hearkening back to 1960s and 1970s classic rock and characterized by extensive use of feedback and distortion, were highly influential in the alternative rock movement of ...

Keep It Like A Secret
''Keep It Like a Secret'' is the fourth studio album released by American indie rock band Built to Spill, and their second for Warner Bros. Records. The initial tracks for the album were recorded in November 1997 at Bear Creek Studios in Woodinville, Washington by Phil Ek, with overdubs recorded on mid-1998 at Avast! Recording Co. in Seattle, Washington. ''Keep It Like a Secret'' was released on February 2, 1999. The album spawned two EPs: '' Carry the Zero'' and ''Center of the Universe''. Background After feeling burned out from constructing the lengthy songs on his previous album, ''Perfect from Now On'', Doug Martsch made a conscious decision to write shorter, more concise songs for ''Keep It Like a Secret''. Recording Many of the songs on the album originated from a week's worth of band jam sessions in Boise. During these marathon jam sessions, which could last up to five hours at a time, Martsch used a foot pedal that triggered a tape machine to begin recording. He ...

Perfect From Now On
''Perfect from Now On'' is the third full-length album released by Built to Spill, and the band's first major label (Warner Bros.) release. It was recorded at the Avast! Recording Company in Seattle, Washington by Phil Ek. Stylistically, the album was marked by its experimentation with longer song structures and philosophical lyrics. The album was recorded three times. The first time, frontman Doug Martsch attempted to play all the instruments except drums. He and Ek were dissatisfied with the results, so Martsch brought in bassist Brett Nelson and drummer Scott Plouf and recorded the album again. However, these tapes were destroyed by heat when Ek was driving from Seattle to Boise to record additional overdubs. The band rehearsed some more, then recorded the album a third time. According to a February 1999 Spin Magazine article, the album had sold 43,000 copies up until that point. In September 2008, the band embarked on a three-month tour to perform the album in its entire ...
