The Elder Son (2006 Film)
''The Elder Son'' is a 2006 American comedy-drama film written and directed by Maryus Vaysberg and Scott Sturgeon. It is based upon the play of the same name by Alexander Vampilov. Plot Maxim Sarafanov (Rade Šerbedžija) has just been fired from the orchestra he played clarinet in, his son Nikita (Reiley McClendon) is in love with his schoolteacher Susan (Regina Hall), and his daughter Lolita (Leelee Sobieski) is to marry pilot Greg (Brian Geraghty) and move to Texas. But things get worse when a small-time car thief Bo ( Shane West) looking for a hideout from the police tells Maxim that he is his son from Maxim's old girlfriend towards whom he still has feelings. Maryus Vaysberg
Maryus Erikovich Vaysberg (, born 1 April 1971), also known as Marius Balčiūnas-Weisberg, is a Russian film director, producer, and screenwriter of Lithuanian and Jewish descent. Career His father, Erik Vaysberg, had had his own career in the Soviet film industry- he acted as the executive producer of Tarkovsky's film Mirror, on Andrei Konchalovsky's film Siberiade, and Karen Shakhnazarov's film The Assassin of the Tsar. Vaysberg graduated from the VGIK in the mid-1990s and started releasing films. His first film, ''No Vacancy'', starring Christina Ricci was released in 1999. Alexander Vampilov
Alexander Valentinovich Vampilov (russian: Александр Валентинович Вампилов) (19 August 1937 – 17 August 1972) was a Soviet playwright. His play ''The Elder Son'' was first performed in 1969, and became a national success two years later. Many of his plays have been filmed or televised in Russia. His four full-length plays were translated into English and ''Duck Hunting'' was performed in London and Washington DC (Arena Stage). Life Vampilov was the fourth child in the family of schoolteachers. His father, Valentin Nikitich, was of Buryats, Buryat ancestry, and his mother, Anastasia Prokopievna was Russian, the daughter of a Russian Orthodox Church priest. The clarinet is a musical instrument in the woodwind family. The instrument has a nearly cylindrical bore and a flared bell, and uses a single reed to produce sound.
