The Eclipse Sessions
''The Eclipse Sessions'' is an album by American singer-songwriter John Hiatt. It is his eighth studio release on the New West Records label. The album was partly recorded in August 2017 as the solar eclipse travelled across the U.S., hence the album title.The Eclipse Sessions (album insert). With Hiatt on lead vocals and guitar, he is joined by long-time collaborators Kenneth Blevins on drums and Patrick O'Hearn on bass. New to the team is producer and musician Kevin McKendree joining in on keyboards. McKendree has worked with Delbert McClinton, Lee Roy Parnell, Tinsley Ellis and Brian Setzer. McKendree's son Yates, who was only 16 at the time, adds lead guitar. John Hiatt
John Robert Hiatt (born August 20, 1952) is an American singer-songwriter. He has played a variety of musical styles on his albums, including new wave, blues, and country. Hiatt has been nominated for nine Grammy Awards and has been awarded a variety of other distinctions in the music industry. Hiatt was working as a songwriter for Tree International, a record label in Nashville, Tennessee, when his song " Sure As I'm Sittin' Here" was covered by Three Dog Night. The song became a Top 40 hit, earning Hiatt a recording contract with Epic Records. Since then he has released 22 studio albums, two compilation albums and one live album. Roots rock is a genre of rock music that looks back to rock's origins in folk, blues and country music. Blues Rock
Blues rock is a fusion music genre that combines elements of blues and rock music. New West Records is a record label based in Nashville, Tennessee, and Athens, Georgia. It had offices in Burbank, California, and Beverly Hills, California. Kevin McKendree
Kevin McKendree (born April 27, 1969) is an American electric blues pianist, keyboardist, guitarist, singer, and songwriter. In addition to having a lengthy and varied career as a session musician, McKendree has released two solo albums. Life and career Born Kevin Yates McKendree, in Nuremberg, Germany, he is a self-taught pianist and guitarist, initially utilizing the playing of Little Richard, Ray Charles and B.B. King as inspiration. When he was 17, he became a professional musician and worked around the Washington, D.C. area playing alongside Big Joe Maher, Tom Principato, Bob Margolin and Mark Wenner. Patrick John O'Hearn (born September 6, 1954) is an American multi-instrumentalist, composer, and recording artist. Known primarily as a bass guitarist and keyboardist, O'Hearn came to prominence with Frank Zappa and co-founded the early 1980s new wave band Missing Persons with several other veterans from Zappa's bands. O'Hearn's musical repertoire spans a diverse range including new-age. In addition to solo albums, he has composed soundtracks for movies and television.
