''The Easiest Way'' is a 1917 American silent film starring Clara Kimball Young and directed by Albert Capellani. It is based on a 1909 play, ''The Easiest Way'' by Eugene Walter, staged by David Belasco and starred Frances Starr as Laura Murdock. Belasco and Starr revived the play in 1921. Albert Capellani
Albert Capellani (23 August 1874 Р26 September 1931) was a French film director and screenwriter of the silent film, silent era. He directed films between 1905 and 1922. One of his brothers was the actor-sculptor Paul Capellani, and another, film director Roger Capellani. Biography Albert Capellani born in Paris in 1874. His father was a banker, and Capellani worked as a bank employee in his early years. Capellani, along with his brother Paul, studied acting under Charles le Bargy at the Conservatoire de Paris. Starting his career as an actor, he worked with the director Andr̩ Antoine at the Th̢̩tre Libre and the Od̩on. He then began directing plays for the Od̩on, working alongside the lauded actor and director Firmin G̩mier. In 1903, he became the head of the Alhambra (Paris), Alhambra music hall in Paris. Biography After following a business career for some years, he gave it up to go onto the stage in 1907 and later made his entry into films as the redemptive hero of Raoul Walsh's 1915 silent gangster film ''Regeneration''. He appeared mostly in silent films and is probably best known today for his role as gangster Joe Helton in '' Monkey Business'' (1931) starring the Marx Brothers. At one time he was married to the stage actress Lucile Watson. He retired from acting in 1934. Fellowes died in Los Angeles, California in 1950 at the age of 66. Cleo Desmond (born Minnie Matilda Hatfield, April 25, 1880 – October 6, 1958) was an American actress and vaudeville performer who had a long career on the stage and screen. She began acting and performing at a young age, appearing in plays and in vaudeville acts as early as 1903 under the stage name Cleo Desmond. She gained nationwide attention as a member of the Lafayette Players. She and Andrew S. Bishop drew adoring fans to their theatrical performances.
