Willis Kent
Willis Kent (June 8, 1878, Michigan – March 11, 1966, Los Angeles, California) was an independent American film producer, active from 1928 to 1958 under at least three different corporate names. Willis Kent Productions was active during the 1930s. Its films, about 40 in all, consisted mostly of low-budget B-westerns, many of which starred short-lived cowboy star and former football player Lafayette "Reb" Russell, along with a few melodramatic police and mystery films. During the 30s, and well into the 1940s, Kent also produced several cheap, sensationalist exploitation features under the banner of Real Life Dramas. That company's first release, '' The Pace That Kills'' (1928), was about innocent young teens being lured into the netherworld of cocaine addiction. Kent remade it, using the same title and same director, adapted with sound, in 1935. Oliver Drake (filmmaker)
Clarence Oliver Drake (May 28, 1903 – August 19, 1991) was an American film/television director, screenwriter, producer and actor who was most active in the Western genre. Though Drake began his career as an actor, he is best known as a prolific screenwriter and director of low-budget Western films (sometimes referred to as B-Westerns). William Farnum
William Farnum (July 4, 1876 – June 5, 1953) was an American actor. He was a star of American silent film cinema and became one of the highest-paid actors during that time. Biography Farnum was born on July 4, 1876, in Boston, Massachusetts, but he grew up in Bucksport, Maine. One of three brothers, Farnum grew up in a family of actors. He made his acting debut at the age of 10 in Richmond, Virginia, in a production of ''Julius Caesar'', with Edwin Booth playing the title character. He portrayed the title character of '' Ben-Hur'' (1900) on Broadway. Later plays Farnum appeared in there included ''The Prince of India'' (1906), ''The White Sister'' (1909), ''The Littlest Rebel'' (1911) co-starring his brother Dustin, and Arizona (1913), also with Dustin. William Nobles (December 23, 1892 – November 24, 1968) was an American cinematographer. Biography Born in 1892 in Waubay, South Dakota, Nobles worked on nearly 200 Hollywood films in a career that spanned five decades, from 1917 to 1966. His most noted cinematography work is probably the Gene Autry film ''Red River Valley'' in 1936,John Howard Reid, ''Great Hollywood Westerns: Classic Pictures, Must-See Movies & "B" Films'', page 118, 2006. and the original ''Dick Tracy'' serial film in 1937, working with Edgar Lyons. Pre-Code Hollywood was the brief era in the Cinema of the United States, American film industry between the widespread adoption of sound in film in 1929LaSalle (2002), p. 1. and the enforcement of the Motion Picture Production Code censorship guidelines, popularly known as the "Hays Code", in mid-1934. Although the Code was adopted in 1930, oversight was poor, and it did not become rigorously enforced until July 1, 1934, with the establishment of the Production Code Administration (PCA). Phyllis Barrington (February 7, 1904 – June 20, 1989) was an American actress. Born Clara Parry and raised in Salt Lake City, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P. M. Parry. She was a graduate of Salt Lake's East High School. She attended the Major School of Acting in Long Beach, California and studied voice. She was known for her roles in Hollywood films in the early 1930s such as Lewis D. Collins's ''The Law of the Tong'' (1931), with John Harron and Jason Robards Sr., Armand Schaefer's ''Sinister Hands'' (1932) opposite Jack Mulhall, '' Sucker Money'' (''Victims of the Beyond'') (1933), with Mischa Auer, and Melville Shyer's ''The Murder in the Museum'' (1934), with Henry B. Walthall and John Harron. Barrington also appeared in plays. At some point before her father's death in 1938, she returned to her birth name and moved to New York City. Charles A. Sellon (August 24, 1870 – June 26, 1937) was an American stage and film actor. Sellon appeared in more than 100 films and stage acts between 1901 and 1935. He played the blind Mr. Muckle in W. C. Fields' comedy ''It's a Gift'' (1934) and the wheelchair-using uncle in '' Bright Eyes'' (1934) with Shirley Temple. His other films included ''The Mighty'', ''The Painted Desert'', and ''Tracked in the Snow Country''.
