The Draft EP
''The Draft EP'' is the debut release by Bristol-based band The Nova Saints, released on 28 May 2007. The EP was limited to 500 copies on its initial release but has been re-released twice since, most recently by Northern Star Records in a limited run of 200, to mark The Nova Saints’ signing to the label. Recording The majority of ''The Draft EP'' was recorded at Moles (nightclub), Moles Studio in Bath, Somerset and is made up of tracks that were originally intended as demos. The tracks "The Draft" and "Slow Down" were recorded live in one take, though there were some overdubs on "The Draft". Speaking to ''The Blog That Celebrates Itself'' in 2009 about the EP, singer Steve Waterhouse said: "We were only just finding our feet as a recording band during that time - something we've become a lot better at, which I think will show on the next record. The Nova Saints
The Nova Saints (or Nova Saints) are a Bristol-based band whose musical style is most commonly referred to as 'shoegazing' and 'psychedelic music, psychedelic'. Their debut album ''Newfoundland'' was released in the UK in November 2011. History Spencer (2003–2006) The first incarnation of the band that would become The Nova Saints formed in Hereford in 2003 as Spencer, a modish garage band, albeit with a heavy shoegaze influence. The band was initially formed purely to provide a support act to a friend's band. The primary members were John Banks, Steve Waterhouse, Dom Gallagher, Gareth Children and Tom Chillcott and the name was a throwback to a band the four members played in as teenagers. Northern Star Records
Northern Star Records was a UK based record label, founded by Scott Causer and Andy Oliver in 2005. The label launched in March 2006 with their first release, the double CD compilation album, ''Psychedelica Vol. 1''. The release soon gained cult status and was praised by ''Billboard'' for bringing the genre into the mainstream, as the label was increasing viewed as being the leading pioneers of the third wave of psychedelia. Nick McCabe
Nicholas John McCabe (born 14 July 1971) is an English musician best known as the lead guitarist of the Verve. Early life McCabe is the son of a bus driver father and a social worker mother and has two older brothers, Alan and Paul. When asked what it was that inspired him to become a guitarist, he answered: "That was me, I just got a guitar, and I could play a few things on it, and I liked messing with it, and I liked making my own things up." He attended Haydock High School, and later met Richard Ashcroft at Winstanley College. Ashcroft described McCabe's guitar playing as sounding like "a whole other universe"; the two briefly played in a band whilst at college. After leaving college, McCabe began a career as a quantity surveyor. He later recalled: "I hated it. I used to sit there all day scribbling in my pad thinking about guitar sounds." Moles (nightclub)
Moles is a live music venue and nightclub in Bath, Somerset with a capacity of 220 people. It was opened by Phillip Andrews on New Year's Eve 1977. It is known as a grassroots venue and has hosted many music acts before they became household names, such as Oasis, Ed Sheeran, The Killers, Radiohead, The Cure, King Crimson, Eurythmics, and Supergrass. Moles closed and filed for insolvency in October 2023. History Moles was founded by Phillip Andrews, who was also the director of the venue. He was the club's director from 1977 to 2009. Andrews was disappointed at the 'Euro disco crap', and he and a friend thought that Bath needed a good club. He wanted to have a club with " real ale, veggie food and live music". The landlord of the venue (which had previously been Six of Clubs), heard about Andrews' idea and gave him 10 days to decide whether he wanted to take on turning the venue into a club. Bath, Somerset
Bath () is a city in the Bath and North East Somerset unitary area in the county of Somerset, England, known for and named after its Roman-built baths. At the 2021 Census, the population was 101,557. Bath is in the valley of the River Avon, west of London and southeast of Bristol. Rough Trade Shops
Rough Trade is a group of independent record shops in the United Kingdom and the United States with headquarters in London. The first Rough Trade shop was opened in 1976 by Geoff Travis in the Ladbroke Grove district of West London. Travis reportedly took the name from the Canadian art punk/ new wave band Rough Trade. In 1978, the shop spawned Rough Trade Records, which became the label of bands from The Smiths to The Libertines. In 1982, the two separated and the shop remains an independent entity from the label, although links between the two are strong. At the same time, the shop moved from its original location on Kensington Park Road round the corner to Talbot Road. In 1988, a shop opened in Neal's Yard, Covent Garden. Ride (band)
Ride is an English rock band formed in Oxford in 1988. The band consists of vocalists and guitarists Andy Bell and Mark Gardener, drummer Laurence "Loz" Colbert and bassist Steve Queralt. They are recognised as one of the key pioneers of shoegaze, an alternative rock subgenre that emerged to prominence in the United Kingdom during the early 1990s. The band's first two albums, ''Nowhere'' (1990) and ''Going Blank Again'' (1992), are critically acclaimed as two of the greatest shoegaze albums of all time. The latter's lead single, "Leave Them All Behind", was the band's most commercially successful song, reaching No. 9 on the UK Singles Chart. The Verve
The Verve were an English Rock music, rock band formed in Wigan in 1990 by lead vocalist Richard Ashcroft, guitarist Nick McCabe, bass guitarist Simon Jones (musician), Simon Jones and drummer Peter Salisbury.
