"The Door" is a song by the Australian rock band Silverchair, released as the last single from their second album, ''Freak Show''. The band's vocalist and guitarist Daniel Johns said "It's influenced a lot by Led Zeppelin and anything from that era really. Before the album, when I actually wrote it and showed Ben and Chris, Ben and Chris liked it and they wanted to continue working on it and write a bit more, and I didn't really like the song. And they were like, 'oh, come on, we'll just use it' and so I said, 'yeah all right,' just to see how it would turn out. And it ended up changed a little bit and now I'm really happy with it." Silverchair were an Australian Rock music, rock band, which formed in 1992 as Innocent Criminals in Newcastle, New South Wales, with Ben Gillies on drums, Daniel Johns on vocals and guitars, and Chris Joannou on bass guitar. The group got their big break in mid-1994 when they won a national demo competition conducted by SBS (Australian TV channel), SBS TV show ''Nomad'' and ABC radio station Triple J. Chris Joannou
Christopher Andrew Joannou (born 10 November 1979) is an Australian musician best known as the bassist for the Newcastle-based alternative rock band Silverchair. He is a twin to sister Louise Kipa. He was the first of the three band members to cut his long hair short. Joannou was nicknamed 'Lumberjack' by Silverchair fans for his love of trees, and plaid shirts. His bandmate Ben Gillies taught him how to play bass guitar. As well as being a well known bassist, Joannou was the assistant producer for The Mess Hall albums '' Feeling Sideways'' and the ARIA award-winning ''Notes From A Ceiling''. The ARIA Charts are the main Australian music sales charts, issued weekly by the Australian Recording Industry Association. The charts are a record of the highest selling songs and albums in various genres in Australia. ARIA became the official Australian music chart in June 1988, succeeding the Kent Music Report, which had been Australia's national music sales charts since 1974. History The ''Go-Set'' charts were Australia's first national singles and albums charts, published from 5 October 1966 until 24 August 1974. ''Minor Threat'' (also referred to as ''First Two Seven Inches'') is a compilation album by the American hardcore punk band Minor Threat. It was released in March 1984 through Dischord Records. The compilation consisted of the group's first and second extended plays, ''Minor Threat'' (originally released June 1981) and ''In My Eyes'' (originally released December 1981). The 1984 ''Minor Threat'' LP featured the same cover as the 1981 ''Minor Threat'' EP, depicting vocalist Ian MacKaye's younger brother Alec ( Untouchables, The Faith). The image has been imitated by punk bands such as Rancid on their album '' ...And Out Come the Wolves'' and in the Major Threat ad campaign by Nike. Surfin' Bird
"Surfin' Bird" is a song performed by American surf rock band The Trashmen, containing the repetitive lyric "the bird is the word". It has been covered many times. It is a combination of two R&B hits by The Rivingtons: "Papa-Oom-Mow-Mow" and "The Bird's the Word". The song was released as a single in 1963 and reached No. 4 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. The Trashmen also recorded an album named after the track, released two months later. History The Rivingtons followed up their 1963 ''Billboard'' Hot 100 hit "Papa-Oom-Mow-Mow" with the similar "The Bird's the Word" in 1963. The Trashmen had not heard this version but saw a band called the Sorensen Brothers playing it. They decided to play the song that night at their own gig. Ben Gillies
Benjamin David Gillies (born 24 October 1979) is an Australian musician, best known as the drummer of Australian rock band Silverchair from 1992 until the band went on hiatus in 2011. In 2003, Gillies formed Tambalane with Wes Carr, initially as a songwriting project; they released a self-titled album in 2005 and toured Australia but subsequently folded. By June 2011, after Silverchair's disbandment, Gillies was in the final stages of about 12 months of working on his solo album, and he said that it was not a continuation of his earlier work with Tambalane. In 2012, he formed Bento, in which he performs lead vocals, and released the band's debut album ''Diamond Days''. ''Freak Show'' is the second studio album by Australian alternative rock band Silverchair. It was recorded during May–November 1996 and released on 4 February 1997 by record labels Murmur and Epic. It was nominated for the 1997 ARIA Music Award for Best Group, but lost to Savage Garden. Recording and production Silverchair began recording their second studio album, ''Freak Show'', in May 1996 while experiencing the success of their debut album, 1995's ''Frogstomp'', in Australia and the US.
