''The Divide'' is a 1980 alternate history novel by William Overgard. It concerns resistance in the United States to a Nazi occupation. Plot The point of divergence occurs in 1940 when Nazi Germany forces France and the United Kingdom to surrender and takes control over their former empires. After Germany soon overruns all of the Soviet Union in 1941, both it and Japan attack and invade the United States later that year. President Burton K. Wheeler (who defeated Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1940) surrenders the United States to the Axis after a devastating bombardment of missiles from occupied Canada. The surrender takes place on April 20, 1946, Adolf Hitler's fifty seventh birthday. President Wheeler, Army Chief of Staff General George Marshall, and other government officials are executed by garrote in a meat packing plant outside of Washington, D.C. on July 24 of the same year (by using the method that was used for the 20 July plot conspirators in our timeline) after being found ... Nicholas Evans
Nicholas Benbow Evans (26 July 1950 – 9 August 2022) was a British journalist, screenwriter, television and film producer and novelist. Biography Nicholas Benbow Evans was born in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, son of Anthony Evans, director of a motor engineering company, and Eileen, née Whitehouse. He was educated at Bromsgrove School, where he was head boy. He served as a teacher in Senegal with the charity Voluntary Service Overseas for a year, after which he earned a first in law at St. Edmund Hall, Oxford. Following graduation he worked as a reporter for the Newcastle-upon-Tyne ''Evening Chronicle'' before moving to London Weekend Television where he worked on ''Weekend World'' and ''The London Programme'' and was executive producer of ''The South Bank Show'' from 1982 to 1984. The Divide trilogy is a fantasy young adult novel trilogy by Elizabeth Kay, which takes place in an alternate universe. The three books are ''The Divide'' (2002), ''Back to The Divide'' (2005), and ''Jinx on The Divide'' (2006). The first novel was originally published by the small press publisher Chicken House (now a division of Scholastic), with subsequent volumes published by Scholastic, which also reprinted the first novel. The books have been translated into French, German, Spanish, Finnish, Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese, Italian, Romanian and Dutch. Interior illustrations are by Ted Dewan. ''The Divide'' is a 2015 documentary film directed by British filmmaker Katharine Round. It was produced by Katharine Round and Christopher Hird. It is an adaptation of the acclaimed 2009 socio-economic book '' The Spirit Level'' by Richard G. Wilkinson and Kate Pickett. The book argues that there are "pernicious effects that inequality has on societies: eroding trust, increasing anxiety and illness, (and) encouraging excessive consumption". Originally titled ''The Spirit Level'', The film ran a successful crowdfunding campaign through IndieGoGo, raising £70,000, £20,000 more than expected. At Cannes, it won the Queer Palm. The film centres on Raf and Julie, a couple who find themselves in a hospital, having nearly suffocated, on the night before a major demonstration. Synopsis During a winter evening in 2018, Raf, on the verge of breaking up with Julie, fractures an elbow and ends up in the emergency department of a large Parisian hospital. Thomas Alan Waits (born December 7, 1949) is an American musician, composer, songwriter, and actor.
