The Digital Hub is a cluster of technology, digital media and internet companies in The Liberties area of Dublin, Ireland. The hub consists of almost 75 companies located in eight buildings, collectively employing 700 people. It is the largest enterprise cluster of its kind in Ireland. History The Irish Government founded The Digital Hub in 2003 to cater for companies involved in information technology, with Media Lab Europe—a business venture by MIT, as its anchor. By 2017, more than 200 companies have (or still are) located there, including Amazon, Etsy, Havok, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, Lonely Planet, Eventbrite, Slack, and Stripe. Fiach Mac Conghail (born 4 August 1964) is CEO of the Digital Hub Development Agency. He is a former Director of the Abbey Theatre from 2005 to 2016. He is a former Senator from 2011 to 2016 and was appointed by the Taoiseach Enda Kenny. Early life His father, Muiris Mac Conghail, was a filmmaker and broadcaster who served as Government Press Secretary and was Controller of Programmes at RTÉ; his mother is a noted genealogist. The Liberties, Dublin
The Liberties (Irish: ''Na Saoirsí'' or occasionally ''Na Libirtí'') is an area in central Dublin, Ireland, located in the southwest of the inner city. Formed from various areas of special manorial jurisdiction, separate from the main city government, it is one of Dublin's most historic working class neighbourhoods. The area was traditionally associated with the River Poddle, market traders and local family-owned businesses, as well as the Guinness brewery, whiskey distilling, and, historically, the textiles industry and tenement housing.
