''The Delinquents'' is a 1957 American drama film written, produced, and directed by Robert Altman. As the directorial debut of Altman, he filmed it in his hometown of Kansas City, Missouri during the summer of 1956 on a $63,000 budget. It is not only the first film Altman directed, but also the first to star Tom Laughlin. Plot In suburban Kansas City, a group of hot-rod greasers and carousing delinquents stir trouble in a bar when they are denied drinks. Cholly and Eddy, the leaders of the gang, respond by breaking a window. Meanwhile, 18-year-old Scotty White and 16-year-old Janice Wilson are very much in love, but her parents stand between them because Janice is "too young to go steady" and Scotty "hangs out with the wrong crowd", with her dad telling him to stay away. ''The Delinquents'' ( es, Los golfos) is a 1960 Spanish drama film directed by Carlos Saura. It was entered into the 1960 Cannes Film Festival. Plot Julián, Ramón, Juan, el Chato, Paco and Manolo are six young people from the depressed, suburban and shantytown outskirts of Madrid who survive off the product of their assaults, thefts and robberies. Only one of them, Juan, eventually works as a porter in the Legazpi fruit market, and it is him that the others try to help, in solidarity, to make his dream of being a bullfighter come true. Although they manage to collect the money that the intermediary asks for, everything goes wrong. Criena Rohan
Deirdre Cash (1924 – 11 March 1963) was an Australian novelist and Torch song, torch singer, who wrote under the pseudonym Criena Rohan. Her first novel, ''The Delinquents'', set in Brisbane, was described as a "back-street ''Tristan and Isolde''". Background Deirdre Cash was born in Melbourne into an Irish-Australian Catholic family. Her father Leo Evaristus Cash, a salesman, had been active in the 1930s New Theatre movement in Melbourne, while her mother Valerie (née Walsh) was an operetta singer. Her parents separated when Valerie and her younger brother were still young. They were brought up by relatives in Calca, South Australia and then by unmarried aunts in Melbourne. Education and singing Deirdre boarded at the Convent of Mercy, Mornington, Victoria. After matriculating, Deirdre enrolled at what became the Melba Conservatorium of Music. ''The Delinquents'' is a 1989 Australian coming-of-age romantic drama film directed by Chris Thomson from a screenplay by Clayton Frohman and Mac Gudgeon, based on Criena Rohan's 1962 book of the same name.
