Chic (band)
Chic ( ), currently called Nile Rodgers & Chic, is an American band that was formed in 1972 by guitarist Nile Rodgers and bassist Bernard Edwards. It recorded many commercially successful disco songs, including "Dance, Dance, Dance (Yowsah, Yowsah, Yowsah)" (1977), " Everybody Dance" (1977), "Le Freak" (1978), " I Want Your Love" (1978), " Good Times" (1979), and "My Forbidden Lover" (1979). The group regarded themselves as a rock band for the disco movement "that made good on hippie peace, love and freedom". In 2017, Chic was nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for the eleventh time. History 1970–1978: Origins and early singers Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards met in 1970 as session musicians working in the New York City area. They formed a rock band initially named The Boys, but soon changed it to The Big Apple Band, and played numerous gigs around New York City. Despite interest in their demos, they never garnered a record contract. Both ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Albums Produced By Bernard Edwards
An album is a collection of audio recordings issued on compact disc (CD), vinyl, audio tape, or another medium such as digital distribution. Albums of recorded sound were developed in the early 20th century as individual 78 rpm records collected in a bound book resembling a photograph album; this format evolved after 1948 into single vinyl long-playing (LP) records played at rpm. The album was the dominant form of recorded music expression and consumption from the mid-1960s to the early 21st century, a period known as the album era. Vinyl LPs are still issued, though album sales in the 21st-century have mostly focused on CD and MP3 formats. The 8-track tape was the first tape format widely used alongside vinyl from 1965 until being phased out by 1983 and was gradually supplanted by the cassette tape during the 1970s and early 1980s; the popularity of the cassette reached its peak during the late 1980s, sharply declined during the 1990s and had largely disappeared duri ... Chic (band) Compilation Albums
Chic (; ), meaning "stylish" or "smart", is an element of fashion. It was originally a French word. Etymology ''Chic'' is a French word, established in English since at least the 1870s. Early references in English dictionaries classified it as slang and New Zealand-born lexicographer Eric Partridge noted, with reference to its colloquial meaning, that it was "not so used in Fr nch" Gustave Flaubert notes in ''Madame Bovary'' (published in 1856) that "chicard" (one who is chic) is then Parisian very current slang for "classy" noting, perhaps derisively, perhaps not, that it was bourgeois. There is a similar word in German, '' schick'', with a meaning similar to ''chic'', which may be the origin of the word in French; another theory links ''chic'' to the word ''chicane''. Although the French pronunciation (/ˈʃiːk/ or "sheek") is now virtually standard and was that given by Fowler, ''chic'' was often rendered in the anglicised form of "chick". Chic-ism
''Chic-ism'' is the eighth studio album by American R&B band Chic, released on the Warner Bros label in 1992. The album includes singles "Chic Mystique" (#1 US Club Play, #48 R&B) and "Your Love" (#3 US Club Play). Nine years after Chic's final 1983 album '' Believer'', during which Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards had worked as songwriters and producers for artists such as David Bowie, Madonna, Duran Duran, Robert Palmer, and The B-52's, and the Chic back catalogue and its musical legacy had been re-evaluated by both music critics and the general public, Edwards and Rodgers reunited for a long-awaited eighth Chic album and the following years would see the two touring the world with their new line-up of the band. ''Chic-ism'' was digitally remastered and re-issued by Wounded Bird Records in 2006. Track listing All songs written by Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards except as indicated. #"Chic Mystique" – 6:27 (Nile Rodgers/Bernard Edwards/Princesa) #"Your Love" – 5 :54 #"J ... Believer (Chic Album)
''Believer'' is the seventh studio album by American band Chic, their last for the Atlantic Records label, and the last featuring the classic line-up of Nile Rodgers, Bernard Edwards, Alfa Anderson, Luci Martin, and Tony Thompson. The album includes the singles "Give Me the Lovin'" (#57 US R&B), "You Are Beautiful" (issued only in France, the Netherlands, and Scandinavia), and "Party Everybody" (issued only in Canada, Germany, and the Netherlands). The album failed to make much of an impact and shortly after its release the group disbanded. 1983 had seen Nile Rodgers releasing his first solo album, '' Adventures in the Land of the Good Groove'' - also largely overlooked, at least on a strictly commercial level. The following production assignment for David Bowie's '' Let's Dance'' (1983) album was to change the future for both Rodgers and his colleague Bernard Edwards completely. ''Believer'' was transferred to compact disc and re-released by Atlantic Records/Warner Music in 1991 ... Tongue In Chic
''Tongue in Chic'' is the sixth studio album by American R&B band Chic, released on Atlantic Records in 1982. The album includes the singles " Hangin'" (R&B #48) and "I Feel Your Love Comin' On" (issued only in the Netherlands). ''Tongue in Chic'' peaked at No. 173 on the ''Billboard'' 200. The album was the second of two projects to be written and produced by Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers in 1982, the other being the soundtrack to movie ''Soup for One''. ''Tongue in Chic'' was transferred to compact disc and re-released by Atlantic Records/Warner Music in 1991. The album was digitally remastered and re-issued by Wounded Bird Records in 2003. Critical reception The '' Spin Alternative Record Guide'' wrote that the album "offers some extended nasty grooves that would soon be watered down for Bowie's ''Let's Dance'', but the songwriting falters halfway." Track listing All tracks written by Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers. ;Side A #" Hangin'" – 5:12 #"I Feel Your Lo ... Take It Off (album)
''Take It Off'' is the fifth studio album by American R&B band Chic, released on Atlantic Records in November 16, 1981. It includes the single "Stage Fright", which reached number 35 on the US R&B chart, but was the first Chic single failing to enter the US Pop charts, and this album only proved to be moderately successful as well, stalling at number 124 on the US albums chart and number 36 on the R&B chart. ''Take It Off'' was one of three albums written and produced by Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers in 1981, the other two being Blondie lead singer Debbie Harry's debut solo album ''Koo Koo'' and Johnny Mathis' ''I Love My Lady''. ''Take It Off'' was transferred to CD and re-released by Atlantic Records/Warner Music in 1991. It was digitally remastered and reissued by Wounded Bird Records in 2006. Real People (album)
''Real People'' is the fourth studio album by American R&B band Chic, released on Atlantic Records in 1980. It includes the singles " Rebels Are We" (US R&B #8, Pop #61), "Real People" (#51 R&B, #79 Pop), and "26" (issued only in the UK). The album was one of four written and produced by Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers in 1980, the other three being Sister Sledge's '' Love Somebody Today'', Sheila and B. Devotion's '' King of the World'', and Diana Ross' multi-platinum selling album '' Diana''. The album peaked at #30 on the US Albums chart and #8 on the US R&B chart, a modest commercial success in comparison both to the Diana Ross project and their previous albums, most likely due to the so-called " anti-disco backlash". Though in spite of the backlash, all of the album cuts peaked at #29 on the American dance charts. ''Real People'' was released on CD by Atlantic Records/Warner Music in 1991. It was digitally remastered and reissued by Wounded Bird Records in 2003. ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |
