The Deceiver (film)
''The Deceiver'' is a 1931 American pre-Code mystery film directed by Louis King. It was written by Jack Cunningham, based on a short story called "It Might Have Happened" by Bella Muni and Abem Finkel. The film stars Lloyd Hughes, Ian Keith and Dorothy Sebastian. John Wayne makes a minor appearance as a stand-in playing Ian Keith's corpse. It featured songs and tap dance numbers in an act billed as "Hot Harlem". The film premiered on November 21, 1931. Louis King
Louis King (June 28, 1898 – September 7, 1962) was an American actor and film director of westerns and adventure movies in the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s. Citwf.com; accessed July 23, 2015. Biography King was born in Christiansburg, Virginia. His name was also written as L.H. King and Lewis King. A brother of director Henry King (director), Henry King, he entered the film business in 1919 as a character actor. He specialized in villains and blusterers. Murray Kinnell
Murray Kinnell (24 July 1889 – 11 August 1954) was a British-born American actor, recognized for playing smooth, gentlemanly, although rather shady characters. He appeared in 71 films in the USA between the pre-code era of 1930 and 1937. He was best known as the two-timing petty-larceny hood Putty Nose in ''The Public Enemy'' (1931). He also appeared in a number of the Charlie Chan series of films. He had a brief tenure in stage work from 1911, prior to his cinema career. On 11 August 1954, Kinnell died at his home in Santa Barbara, California. Allan Ernest Garcia (11 March 1887 – 4 September 1938) was an American actor and casting director, best known for his long association with Charlie Chaplin. Life and career Al Ernest Garcia appeared in over 120 films between 1911 and 1938, mostly in supporting roles. He frequently played in silent film westerns with stars including Leo Carrillo and Warner Baxter. Garcia also directed a short film named ''The Purple Scar'' in 1917, but it stayed his only work as a director. Born in California to Mexican parents, Garcia played in some Mexican films and also portrayed Mexicans in American films. With the advent of sound film, his roles were somewhat smaller, but he worked as an actor until his death. Garcia is best remembered for his work with Charlie Chaplin.
