The Deal (album)
''The Deal'' is the debut album by American post-metal band Sumac. It was released on digital and CD formats through Profound Lore Records and on vinyl LP via SIGE Records on February 17, 2015. The album was recorded at Aleph and Litho studios in Seattle, Washington between July and August 2014. The album was mixed at GodCity Studios in Salem, Massachusetts by Kurt Ballou. The artwork was a collaborative effort between Aaron Turner and Faith Coloccia. Background In September 2014, shortly after the formation of the band, Sumac announced the track listing and expected February release of their debut album, through Profound Lore Records and SIGE Records, tentatively titled ''The Deal''. The report was made based on an entry in Aaron Turner's official blog, which included the announcement and photos of the band recording. Sumac (stylized as SUMAC) is an American/Canadian post-metal supergroup that formed in 2014. It features the Vancouver, British Columbia-based Nick Yacyshyn (Baptists), Seattle, Washington-based Brian Cook (Russian Circles, ex-These Arms Are Snakes, ex- Botch) and Vashon, Washington-based Aaron Turner (Mamiffer, Old Man Gloom, ex-Isis). Sumac released its debut album '' The Deal'' through Profound Lore Records in 2015. Old Man Gloom is an extreme metal band originally formed in Santa Fe, New Mexico, but now based in Massachusetts. The group, formed by Aaron Turner of Isis and Santos Montano, expanded to become a sort of supergroup in the Boston hardcore and metalcore scene. Brian Cook (musician)
Brian Cook (born July 16, 1977) is an American bass guitarist currently in the bands Russian Circles and Sumac. He was also previously a full-time member of Botch, These Arms Are Snakes and Roy, and also a session musician for Mouth of the Architect. Cook is also a freelance journalist and has published a book titled ''The Second Chair is Meant for You''. He is openly gay. In August 2021, Cook released his first solo album titled ''We Left a Note with an Apology'' through Sargent House under the moniker Torment & Glory. The initial concept for the album dates back to the mid-2000's when he listened to Bruce Springsteen's 1982 studio album ''Nebraska'' on vinyl that was so covered in dust, the music was heavily distorted with occasional acoustic guitar music. Noise-rock
Noise rock (sometimes called noise punk) is a noise-oriented style of experimental rock that spun off from punk rock in the 1980s.
