''The Darkside Vol. 2'' is the second mixtape by rapper Fat Joe. The mixtape was released October 31, 2011. The mixtape's production was primarily handled by Mark Henry, Hype and RoJ & TwinkiE. Background Originally after the release of ''The Darkside Vol. 1'', Fat Joe stated during an interview with Sway on MTV RapFix Live in August 2010 that he planned to release another two volumes of ''The Darkside'', then retire. However, in December 2010 during an interview with GlobalGrind, Fat Joe stated that he was working on a new album which wasn't a ''Darkside'' album and was going to release ''The Darkside Vol. 2'' as a mixtape. Promotion In June 2011, ''Drop a Body'' was released for the debuted as a music video on World Star Hip-Hop. Joseph Antonio Cartagena (born August 19, 1970), better known by his stage name Fat Joe, is an American rapper from New York City. He began his music career as a member of hip hop group Diggin' in the Crates Crew (D.I.T.C.), then forged a solo career and set up his own label, Terror Squad, to which he signed Big Pun, Remy Ma, Tony Sunshine, Cuban Link, Armageddon, Prospect, Triple Seis, and a then-unknown DJ Khaled, as well as discover producers Cool & Dre. Hardcore hip hop (also hardcore rap) is a genre of hip hop music that developed through the East Coast hip hop scene in the 1980s. Pioneered by such artists as Run-DMC, Schoolly D, Boogie Down Productions and Public Enemy, it is generally characterized by anger, aggression and confrontation. Terror Squad Productions is an American Hip hop and Rap record company founded by Fat Joe in 1997. The label had been distributed by Atlantic, EMI, and Imperial, E1 (formerly Koch). The label's flagship artist was Big Pun. History Early Years (1997-1999) Fat Joe decided to form Terror Squad Productions in 1997 with help from Craig Kallman, Greg Angelides, and his manager Mick Bentson. After being disappointed with the previous album sales at Relativity Records, Fat Joe left Relativity and signed to Atlantic Records. ''Darkside III'' is the third volume in the Darkside series by rapper Fat Joe. The mixtape was released August 26, 2013 via DatPiff. Background On December 3, 2012 the sequel to The Darkside Vol. 2 track Angel Sings was released with Fat Joe announcing Darkside III was in the works at the end of the song. On December 20, 2012 he pleaded guilty to tax evasion and was released on bail. The video for ''Angels Say 2'' produced by Eif Rivera was released on January 7, 2013. On February 21, 2013 a new track with accompanying video directed by Mind Muscle CX was released titled ''Ceilings 2 The Sky''. A mixtape (alternatively mix-tape, mix tape or mixed tape) is a compilation of music, typically from multiple sources, recorded onto a medium. With origins in the 1980s, the term normally describes a homemade compilation of music onto a cassette tape, CD, or digital playlist.
