The Daily Home
''The Daily Home'' is a daily newspaper serving the Talladega County and St. Clair County, Alabama areas. Originally begun as a weekly in 1867 it was called ''Our Mountain Home'' until daily production began in 1909 at which point the name was changed to ''The Talladega Daily Home.'' In 1965 the paper was purchased by Consolidated Publishing a local company which also publishes the ''Anniston Star'' and several local weeklies. The name was changed to ''The Daily Home'' when an office was opened in Sylacauga and coverage expanded to include all of Talladega County. Anniston Star
''The Anniston Star'' is the daily newspaper serving Anniston, Alabama, and the surrounding six-county region. Average Sunday circulation in September 2004 was 26,747. However, by 2020 it was approximately half of this. The newspaper is locally owned by Consolidated Publishing Company, which is controlled by the Ayers family of Anniston. As of 2020, the paper operated as a "digital-first" publication, and was putting out only three print editions each week. History The paper was first published in 1883 as the ''Anniston Evening Star.'' It traces its modern history to 1911, when managing editor Col. Harry M. Ayers left to start his own paper, the ''Anniston Hot Blast''—a nod to Anniston's roots as a steel town. Sylacauga
Sylacauga is a city in Talladega County, Alabama, United States. At the 2020 census, the population was 12,578. Sylacauga is known for its fine white marble bedrock. This was discovered shortly after settlers moved into the area and has been quarried ever since. The marble industry was the first recorded industry in the Sylacauga area. Sylacauga is the site of the first documented case of an object from outer space hitting a person. On November 30, 1954, a piece of what became known as the Hodges Fragment from the Sylacauga Meteorite crashed through the roof of an Oak Grove house, bounced off a radio, and badly bruised Ann Hodges, who was taking an afternoon nap. Pell City
Pell City is a city in and one of the county seats of St. Clair County, Alabama, United States, other seat being Ashville. At the 2020 census, the population was 12,939. At the 2010 census, the city-limit population jumped to 12,695. It was home to Avondale Mills and its legacy in the Avondale Mill Historic District. History Pell City was founded in 1890 by railroad investors and named after George Pell of the Pell City Iron and Land Company, one of its financial backers. The city was incorporated on May 6, 1891, but nearly failed during the Panic of 1893. Pell City was revived in 1902 when Sumter Cogswell built the Pell City Manufacturing Company, which subsequently became Avondale Mills, a major landmark of the town until Thunder Enterprises, a Tennessee company, bought the building and began dismantling the factory in 2008.
