The Cynic, The Rat And The Fist
''The Cynic, the Rat and the Fist'' ( it, Il cinico, l'infame, il violento, lit=The Cynic, the Infamous, the Violent) is an Italian ''poliziotteschi'' film directed in 1977 by Umberto Lenzi and third entry into the Tanzi/Moretto/Monnezza shared universe as well as serving as a direct sequel to ''The Tough Ones''. The film was described by Italian film critic and historian Roberto Curti as "a sequel of sorts" to Lenzi's 1976 ''The Tough Ones'', with Maurizio Merli reprising the role of Inspector Leonardo Tanzi. The title of the movie inspired the book ''Cinici infami e violenti'' (2005), written by Daniele Magni and Silvio Giobbio, a book guide about "Poliziotteschi". Plot Luigi "The Chinaman" Maietto escapes from prison. As soon as he is free he assigns immediately two henchman to murder the inspector whose testimonial once led to his prison sentence. Umberto Lenzi
Umberto Lenzi (6 August 1931 – 19 October 2017) was an Italian film director, screenwriter, and novelist. A fan of film since young age, Lenzi studied at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia and made his first film in 1958 which went unreleased, while his official debut happened in 1961 with ''Queen of the Seas''. Lenzi's films of the 1960s followed popular trends of the era, which led to him directing several spy and erotic thriller films. He followed in suit in the 1970s making ''giallo'' films, crime films and making the first Italian cannibal film with ''Man from the Deep River''. He continued making films up until the 1990s and later worked as a novelist writing a series of murder mysteries. Poliziotteschi (; singular ''poliziottesco'') constitute a subgenre of crime and action films that emerged in Italy in the late 1960s and reached the height of their popularity in the 1970s. Riccardo Garrone (1 November 1926 – 14 March 2016) was an Italian actor, voice actor and director. Biography Garrone began his acting career in 1949 and attended the Silvio d'Amico National Academy of Dramatic Arts. He appeared in more than 140 films from 1949 until his retirement in 2014. He made his debut in the film ''Adam and Eve'' directed by Mario Mattoli. ''The Tough Ones'' ( it, Roma a mano armata, lit. "Rome at gunpoint", also known as ''Rome, Armed to the Teeth'') is a 1976 Italian ''poliziottesco'' film directed by Umberto Lenzi and first entry into the Tanzi/Moretto/Monnezza shared universe . Plot Inspector Leonardo Tanzi, the head of the anti-gang squad of the Roman branch of the Italian State Police, is pursuing Emmanuel Dominique Ferrender, a French gangster who holds a monopoly on criminal activity within Rome. A raid at a casino that Ferrender is reported to operate proves fruitless until Savelli, a one-armed criminal with ties to Ferrender, walks by the establishment. Tanzi and his partner, Inspector Francesco Caputo, arrest Savelli but are forced to release him without charge; he later kills a guard during a bank robbery.
