''The Curse of the Hidden Vault'' (german: Die Gruft mit dem Rätselschloß) is a 1964 black and white West German crime film directed by Franz Josef Gottlieb and starring Harald Leipnitz, Eddi Arent, Siegfried Schürenberg and Klaus Kinski. It is based on the 1908 novel '' Angel Esquire'' by Edgar Wallace, previously made into a British silent film.. It was shot at the Spandau Studios and Tempelhof Studios in Berlin and on location in London. The film's sets were designed by the art directors Wilhelm Vorwerg and Walter Kutz. Franz Josef Gottlieb
Franz Josef Gottlieb (1 November 1930 – 23 July 2006) was an Austrian film director and screenwriter. He directed 60 films between 1959 and 2005. He also directed the children's series ''Ravioli (TV series), Ravioli'' in 1983; it aired on ZDF in 1984. He was born in Semmering, Austria and died in Verden an der Aller, Germany of a brain tumor, at age 75. Ilse Steppat
Ilse Paula Steppat (30 November 1917 – 21 December 1969) was a German actress. Her husband was noted actor and director Max Nosseck. Biography She began her cinematic career at the age of 15 playing Joan of Arc. Steppat appeared regularly on the German stage, and starred in more than forty movies. In the 1960s, she appeared frequently in crime movies based on the work of author Edgar Wallace, such as ''Die Gruft mit dem Rätselschloss'', ''Der unheimliche Mönch'' and ''Die blaue Hand'', which brought her great fame in Germany. In her only English language role, Steppat played Blofeld's assistant and henchwoman ''Irma Bunt'' in the James Bond movie ''On Her Majesty's Secret Service''. Vera Tschechowa
Vera Wilhelmowna Rust (born 22 July 1940), known as Vera Tschechowa, is a German producer, director, screenwriter, and retired actress, of Russian descent. She appeared in more than 50 films between 1957 and 1996. She was widely known as Elvis Presley's companion, particularly in connection with his Oral Poliomyelitis Vaccine (OPV) public booster-advocacy and which they both undertook during Presley's first year in Germany with the U.S. Army (1959). Her mother, Ada Tschechowa, was the daughter of Michael Chekhov and Olga Chekhova. Vera herself appeared, on 6 June 1971, as one of 28 women under the banner "We've had abortions!" Harry Meyen
Harry Meyen (born Harald Haubenstock; 31 August 1924 – 15 April 1979) was a German film actor. He appeared in more than 40 films and television productions between 1948 and 1975. In the 1960s he also worked as a theatre director in West Germany. Personal life Meyen was born in Hamburg, the son of a Jewish merchant who was deported to a concentration camp during the Nazi regime. The 18-year-old Meyen himself was incarcerated as a ''Mischling'' and survived the Neuengamme concentration camp. After the war, he began his career with Willy Maertens at the Hamburg Thalia Theater. From 1952 he performed at the Theater Aachen and from 1955 moved to Berlin. Werner Peters (7 July 1918 – 30 March 1971) was a German film actor. He appeared in 102 films between 1947 and 1971. Biography Peters was born in Werlitzsch, Kreis Delitzsch, Prussian Saxony, and died of a heart attack on a promotion tour for his latest film in Wiesbaden, Germany. His film career started with the lead in Wolfgang Staudte's ''Der Untertan'', produced in the young German Democratic Republic. Peters then worked in West Germany, appearing mostly in supporting roles in popular movies.
