''The Cumberland Argus and Fruitgrowers' Advocate'' (also known as ''The Cumberland Argus'' or ''The Argus'') was a newspaper published in Parramatta, New South Wales, Parramatta with coverage and circulation incorporating Greater Western Sydney and parts of North-West Sydney, Australia. First published on 24 September 1887, the paper continued under this title until issue No. 3397, on 15 March 1950, when the newspaper was officially renamed the ''Cumberland Argus''. It remained under this banner for a further 12 years until it ceased publication on 24 October 1962. History The newspaper was founded by Messrs. Thomas Davies Little, Frederick William James Lovell, Richard Stewart Richardson and Alfred Gazzard, all formerly associated with ''The Cumberland Mercury'' newspaper. ''The Cumberland Free Press'' was a short-lived weekly Australian newspaper published and printed in Parramatta, New South Wales, with a coverage extending across the Inner West, Western and North West regions of Sydney. The paper was first published on 22 June 1895 and ceased publication in March 1898. History ''The Cumberland Free Press'' was published by John Black and Company, located in Church Street, Parramatta. The company had been founded in 1895 by John Black, George B. Davey and William Henry Hillis, three former employees of ''The Cumberland Mercury'', a newspaper that had recently been absorbed by ''The Cumberland Argus and Fruitgrowers' Advocate''. Telopea is a suburb of Greater Western Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Telopea is located 23 kilometres north-west of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the City of Parramatta. Dundas is located 21 kilometres north-west of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the City of Parramatta, and the electoral division of Bennelong. Rydalmere ''(formerly "Field of Mars")'' is a suburb of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Rydalmere is approximately 21 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district in the local government area of the City of Parramatta. Rydalmere is part of the Greater Western Sydney region. History The earliest grant in the area was to Phillip Schaeffer who settled in 1791. The district comprising modern day Rydalmere, Ermington and Dundas was initially called "The Ponds" because of such natural features occurring above Subiaco Creek. Shortly after Schaeffer's, further grants were given to several emancipists, eight marines and two crew of HMS ''Sirius'', on the northern bank of the Parramatta River at Rydalmere and Ermington.
