''The Crucifucks'' is a self-titled debut album, released in 1985 on Jello Biafra's Alternative Tentacles record label. Although it never achieved commercial success, it has procured a cult following, most likely due to Doc Corbin Dart's uniquely shrill vocals and violent political lyrics. The Crucifucks (band)
The Crucifucks were an American punk band formed in 1981 in Lansing, Michigan. They were noted for their political agitation, provocative lyrics, and unusually shrill vocals by band leader Doc Corbin Dart. Dead Kennedys vocalist Jello Biafra signed them to his independent Alternative Tentacles label. Other members of the original line up included Dart's cousin Joe on guitar, Scott Fagersten on bass, and drummer Steve Shelley, who went on to play with Sonic Youth. History The band's debut LP ''The Crucifucks'' was recorded in 1984 and released in 1985 on Jello Biafra's Alternative Tentacles label. ''Wisconsin'' followed in 1987, also on Alternative Tentacles. Hardcore punk (also known as simply hardcore) is a punk rock music genre and subculture that originated in the late 1970s. It is generally faster, harder, and more aggressive than other forms of punk rock. Alternative Tentacles
Alternative Tentacles is an independent record label established in 1979 in San Francisco, California. It was used by Dead Kennedys for the self-produced single " California Ãœber Alles". After realizing the potential for an independent label, they released records for other bands as well. Dead Kennedys guitarist East Bay Ray and vocalist Jello Biafra formed Alternative Tentacles, but Biafra became the sole owner in the mid-1980s. Alternative Tentacles no longer owns the rights to Dead Kennedys recordings after a 2000 lawsuit. Spot (born Glen Lockett in 1951) is an American record producer best known for being the house producer and engineer for the influential independent punk record label SST Records. Early life Glen Lockett was born to a Caucasian mother and an African-American father in 1951 and raised in upper-middle-class Hollywood. Lockett's father was a member of the Tuskegee Airmen in WW II. Lockett moved from Hollywood to Hermosa Beach in the mid-1970s, where he met Greg Ginn while working at a vegetarian restaurant called Garden of Eden. Lockett also freelanced for ''Easy Reader'', authoring record reviews under the name Spot. Befriending Ginn, Spot was briefly bassist for Panic, the band which would soon become Black Flag. Career Spot recorded, mixed, produced or co-produced most of SST's pivotal acts between 1979 and 1986. Jello Biafra
Eric Reed Boucher (born June 17, 1958), known professionally as Jello Biafra, is an American singer, spoken word artist and politician. He is the former lead singer and songwriter for the San Francisco punk rock band Dead Kennedys. Initially active from 1979 to 1986, Dead Kennedys were known for rapid-fire music topped with Biafra's sardonic lyrics and biting social commentary, delivered in his "unique quiver of a voice". When the band broke up in 1986, he took over the influential independent record label Alternative Tentacles, which he had founded in 1979 with Dead Kennedys bandmate East Bay Ray. Doc Corbin Dart (born March 16, 1953) is an American musician and former vocalist of the 1980s Lansing, Michigan punk rock band the Crucifucks. As of the early 2000s, he is also known by his moniker 26. Dart's unorthodox vocal stylings have been described as wailing and alarming, while others have described them favorably as heartfelt and influenced by Pete Shelley of iconic UK punk group Buzzcocks.
