''The Count of Monte Cristo'' is a 1973 British-Italian animated television series directed by Maurice Brown. Production details The series was produced in the UK by British animation studio Halas and Batchelor Cartoon Films. It was co-produced with Italian company RAI, and ITC Entertainment, ITC. Giulio Cesare Pirarba voiced the Count in the Italian version. The English dub featured George Roubicek, Jeremy Wilkin, Bernard Spear, Peter Hawkins, Miriam Margolyes, Jean England and David de Keyser. 17 episodes were produced, but have never been seen since their last broadcast in 1976. Halas And Batchelor
Halas and Batchelor was a British animation company founded by husband and wife John Halas and Joy Batchelor. Halas was a Hungarian émigré to the United Kingdom. The company had studios in London and Cainscross, in the Stroud District of Gloucestershire. History From 1936, Halas ran a small animation unit that created commercials for theatrical distribution. After independent careers in animation, Halas and Joy Batchelor began working together in 1938. The Incorporated Television Company (ITC), or ITC Entertainment as it was referred to in the United States, was a British company involved in production and distribution of television programmes. History Incorporated Television Programme Company Television mogul Lew Grade set up the Incorporated Television Programme Company (ITP) with Prince Littler and Val Parnell in 1954. George Roubicek
George Roubicek (born 25 May 1935) is an Austrian actor, and a dialogue director and script adaptor for English-language versions of foreign films and television shows. Born in Austria, Roubicek appeared in a number of small roles throughout the 1950s, '60s and '70s, including the films ''The Bedford Incident'', ''Billion Dollar Brain'' and ''The Dirty Dozen''. In 1967, he appeared in ''The Tomb of the Cybermen'', a four-part ''Doctor Who'' serial. He played the part of Semenkin in ''The Champions'' (Reply Box No.666 episode, 1967). Roubicek had a small role in ''Star Wars (film), A New Hope'', the first ''Star Wars'' film, as the Galactic Empire (Star Wars), Imperial Commander Praji. Jeremy Wilkin
David Jeremy Wilkin (6 June 1930 – 19 December 2017) was an English actor, best known for his contributions to the television productions of Gerry Anderson. Born in Byfleet, Surrey, Wilkin emigrated to Toronto, Ontario, Canada after completing his studies at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. He had previously trained as a doctor. Returning to Britain in the mid-1960s, Wilkin provided the voice of Virgil Tracy for the second series of '' Thunderbirds'' following the departure of the character's original voice actor, David Holliday, in 1965. In 1968 he provided the voice of Captain Ochre, the original Captain Black and many supporting characters for ''Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons''. Bernard Spear
Bernard Spear (11 September 1919 – 9 May 2003) was an English actor. Early life Spear was born on 11 September 1919 in Croydon, Surrey, to a Polish-Jewish father and a Russian-Jewish mother. He was educated at Central Federation School in London, and worked as a clerk at a tobacco manufacturers before serving in the Royal Artillery in Gibraltar during World War II. Career Spear starred in the BAFTA TV Award-winning television play ''Bar Mitzvah Boy'', and also portrayed the dual roles of Cervantes's manservant and Sancho Panza in the 1968 London stage version of ''Man of La Mancha''. Peter Hawkins
Peter John Hawkins (3 April 1924 – 8 July 2006) was a British actor. During the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, he was one of the most sought-after voice artists for radio and television, becoming a regular face and voice around the Soho-based circuit of commercial production studios, and working regularly with actors including Patrick Allen, Edward Judd, and Sir David Jason. Early life A policeman's son, Peter John Hawkins was born on 3 April 1924 in Brixton, south London. He made his first stage appearance as a member of the chorus in a musical sketch at school in Clapham. At 14, he wrote, with three friends, a revue entitled The Five Bs. Miriam Margolyes
Miriam ( he, מִרְיָם ''Mīryām'', lit. 'Rebellion') is described in the Hebrew Bible as the daughter of Amram and Jochebed, and the older sister of Moses and Aaron. David De Keyser
David de Keyser (22 August 1927 – 20 February 2021) was an English actor and narrator. Life and career Born in London in August 1927, in the mid-sixties de Keyser worked twice with the writer, actor and director Jane Arden (director), Jane Arden. Their first collaboration, ''The Logic Game'' (January 1965), was directed by Philip Saville. They acted together again in another Jane Arden script in the film ''Separation (1967 film), Separation'' (Jack Bond (director), Jack Bond 1968) which was set in London and featured music by Procol Harum, Matthew Fisher (musician), Matthew Fisher and Stanley Myers.
