Contender (dinghy)
The International Contender is a single-handed high performance Dinghy sailing, sailing dinghy, designed by Bob Miller, latterly known as Ben Lexcen, (Australia) in 1967 as a possible successor to the Finn (dinghy), Finn dinghy for Olympic Games, Olympic competition. The Contender is recognised as an International Class by World Sailing, the governing body of sail boat racing, which administers the class rules. Background "Single-handed" means sailed by only one person. The boat has a Trapeze (sailing), trapeze which allows the sailor to use their weight more effectively. The design of the boat does not favour sailors within a narrow or extreme size or weight range, past champions have ranged from 60 kg to more than 90 kg. While physical fitness, agility and strength are advantageous, good technical sailing skills and experience can count for more. Sailors wishing to master the Contender must learn how to trapeze and steer the boat at the same time, and how to move abo ... The Game Of Presidential Debate
''The'' () is a grammatical article in English, denoting persons or things that are already or about to be mentioned, under discussion, implied or otherwise presumed familiar to listeners, readers, or speakers. It is the definite article in English. ''The'' is the most frequently used word in the English language; studies and analyses of texts have found it to account for seven percent of all printed English-language words. It is derived from gendered articles in Old English which combined in Middle English and now has a single form used with nouns of any gender. The word can be used with both singular and plural nouns, and with a noun that starts with any letter. This is different from many other languages, which have different forms of the definite article for different genders or numbers. Pronunciation In most dialects, "the" is pronounced as (with the voiced dental fricative followed by a schwa) when followed by a consonant sound, and as (homophone of the archaic pr ... Green Bean
Green beans are young, unripe fruits of various cultivars of the common bean ('' Phaseolus vulgaris''), although immature or young pods of the runner bean (''Phaseolus coccineus''), yardlong bean ( ''Vigna unguiculata'' subsp. ''sesquipedalis''), and hyacinth bean (''Lablab purpureus'') are used in a similar way. Green beans are known by many common names, including French beans (), string beans (although most modern varieties are "stringless"), and snap beans or simply "snaps". In the Philippines, they are also known as "Baguio beans" or "" to distinguish them from yardlong beans. They are distinguished from the many other varieties of beans in that green beans are harvested and consumed with their enclosing pods, before the bean seeds inside have fully matured. An analogous practice is the harvest and consumption of unripened pea pods, as is done with snow peas or sugar snap peas. Culinary use As common food in many countries, green beans are sold fresh, canned, and f ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Lola Versus Powerman And The Moneygoround, Part One
''Lola Versus Powerman and the Moneygoround, Part One'', commonly abbreviated to ''Lola Versus Powerman'', or simply ''Lola'', is the eighth studio album by the English rock band the Kinks, recorded and released in 1970. A concept album, it is a satirical appraisal of the music industry, including song publishers, unions, the press, accountants, business managers, and life on the road. Musically ''Lola Versus Powerman'' is varied, described by Stephen Thomas Erlewine as "a wildly unfocused but nonetheless dazzling ''tour de force''", containing some of Ray Davies's strongest songs. Although it appeared during a transitional period for the Kinks, ''Lola Versus Powerman'' was a success both critically and commercially for the group, charting in the Top 40 in America and helping restore them in the public eye, making it a "comeback" album. It contained two hit singles: "Lola", which reached the top 10 in the US and UK, and " Apeman", which peaked at number five in the UK. In Octob ... The family had a business distributing newspapers and magazines all over Munster. However the family soon lost their business from a combination of bad health and bad luck. Despite this, Ted and Betty made sure that things would still be good for their children. MacCarthy was unhappy at school and left at 15 without an Inter Cert and became a stable boy at Vincent O'Brien's place in Ballydoyle. After five years between Tipperary and Newmarket, Jimmy returned home to help his father, whose bad heart had led to the end of the business. He then made a living out of singing at pubs, and was later busking in the streets of London and doing occasional concerts, opening for other singers' gigs in Ireland. MacCarthy became a musician from an early age, recei ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |
