The Closer You Get (song)
"The Closer You Get" is a song recorded by American country music band Exile. It was released in 1981. About the song "The Closer You Get" was written in 1980 by J.P. Pennington and Mark Gray, members of Exile. However, the song was not immediately recorded by Alabama. Two earlier versions were released as singles – the first by Exile (which failed to gain much attention) and singer Don King, whose version reached No. 27 on the ''Billboard'' Hot Country Singles chart in October 1981. In addition, Rita Coolidge recorded the song for her 1981 album, ''Heartbreak Radio'', and released her version as a single. Alabama's version differed substantially from King's acoustic version. According to country music writer Tom Roland, the song featured "distorted guitars, a more elaborate arrangement and an altered vocal sound." The end result was Alabama's tenth No. 1 song on the ''Billboard'' Hot Country Singles chart. In addition, "The Closer You Get" registered enough airplay on Top 40 ...

Exile (American Band)
Exile is an American band originally formed in 1963. In the 1970s, they were known as a rock band that had a major hit single with "Kiss You All Over" in 1978. After several lineup changes, the band was re-launched as a country act that achieved additional success in the 1980s and '90s. J.P. Pennington is the only current member of the band remaining from its early days. Career Early years The origins of Exile were with a high school band in Richmond, Kentucky, called the Fascinations, which featured singer Jimmy Stokley. In 1963, the Fascinations merged with another local band and became Jimmy Stokley and the Exiles, with singer/guitarist J.P. Pennington, then age 14, joining a short time later. They toured regionally with the Dick Clark Caravan of Stars in 1965. Their name was later shortened to The Exiles, apparently to show support for Cuban refugees. After high school, the band moved to Lexington, Kentucky, and recorded several singles for Date Records, Columbia and RCA ...

Great American Country
Great American Family is an American cable television network. Owned by Great American Media, it broadcasts family-oriented general entertainment programming, including television series and made-for-TV movies. It was originally established in 1995 by Jones Radio Network as Great American Country (GAC), a country music channel. GAC was later acquired by Scripps Networks and, in turn, Discovery Inc. Under Scripps, GAC's format was widened to include lifestyle programming pertaining to the Heartland (United States), American Heartland and the Southern United States, South, but the network did continue carrying some country music-related programming for a period. In June 2021, GAC was acquired by GAC Media—a new ownership group that includes former Crown Media Holdings, Crown Media CEO William J. Abbott, Bill Abbott and Tom Hicks, Hicks Equity Partners. On September 27, 2021, the network was relaunched as GAC Family, with a format mirroring Abbott's former employer Hallmark Chann ...

Songs Written By J
A song is a musical composition intended to be performed by the human voice. This is often done at distinct and fixed pitches (melodies) using patterns of sound and silence. Songs contain various forms, such as those including the repetition and variation of sections. Written words created specifically for music, or for which music is specifically created, are called lyrics. If a pre-existing poem is set to composed music in classical music it is an art song. Songs that are sung on repeated pitches without distinct contours and patterns that rise and fall are called chants. Songs composed in a simple style that are learned informally "by ear" are often referred to as folk songs. Songs that are composed for professional singers who sell their recordings or live shows to the mass market are called popular songs. These songs, which have broad appeal, are often composed by professional songwriters, composers, and lyricists. Art songs are composed by trained classical composer ...

RPM Country Tracks Number-one Singles Of The Year
Revolutions per minute (abbreviated rpm, RPM, rev/min, r/min, or with the notation min−1) is a unit of rotational speed or rotational frequency for rotating machines. Standards ISO 80000-3:2019 defines a unit of rotation as the dimensionless unit equal to 1, which it refers to as a revolution, but does not define the revolution as a unit. It defines a unit of rotational frequency equal to s−1. The superseded standard ISO 80000-3:2006 did however state with reference to the unit name 'one', symbol '1', that "The special name revolution, symbol r, for this unit is widely used in specifications on rotating machines." The International System of Units (SI) does not recognize rpm as a unit, and defines the unit of frequency, Hz, as equal to s−1. :\begin 1~&\text &&=& 60~&\text \\ \frac~&\text &&=& 1~&\text \end A corresponding but distinct quantity for describing rotation is angular velocity, for which the SI unit is the rad ...

The lineup includes all 33 of their '' Billboard magazine'' Hot Country Singles & Tracks No. 1 singles, as well as other songs which reached number one on the former ''Radio & Records'' (now '' Mediabase'') charts; each of the non-''Billboard'' No. 1 hits made the top 5 on that chart. Three new tracks are also included. Of these, "How Do You Fall in Love" reached No. 2 on the ''Billboard'' Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart in late 1998. The follow-up single, "Keepin' Up", reached the Top 20 in early 1999, while "Five O'Clock 500" remained an album cut as it was not released as a single. All of the greatest hits are presented in their single/radio edit forms. In some cases, the songs were nearly two minutes shorter than their original album versions. ''The E ...
