The Clarendon Hotel, Hammersmith
The Clarendon Hotel (also The Clarendon Arms) was a hotel, restaurant, bar and music venue at 5 Hammersmith Broadway, Hammersmith, London W6. History Previously known as "The Goat" and "The Suspension Bridge", its construction date is unknown. Census records in Hammersmith show it operated as a licensed Public House at least as early as 1863 and a 1950s brochure proclaimed it was "FAMOUS AS A RENDEZVOUS FOR OVER 100 YEARS" (see pictures). It closed in 1988 and was demolished to make way for the new Hammersmith Broadway Centre. Music Venue It was used extensively as a music venue in the post-World War II era, initially upstairs in its American Bar and Ballroom and then downstairs in the basement Broadway Bar. Hammersmith Broadway is a major transport node and shopping centre in Hammersmith, London. History The shopping centre opened in 1994, on the site of many now-demolished buildings, including The Clarendon Hotel (a music venue) and Palmers Department Store. Pigpile
''Pigpile'' is a live album by the American musical group Big Black. It is a recording from July 24, 1987 during the post-hardcore band's final European tour, released in 1992 originally as a VHS tape (it was their second video release, following the 'Live' tape on Atavistic Records). It was later issued as an audio-only LP/cassette/CD. The recordings were made at the Hammersmith Clarendon ballroom, London. A 5" transparent heavy-duty vinyl record was included away free with all copies of the VHS tape and some copies of the soundtrack album, featuring a cover version of the Mary Jane Girls song "In My House". Xmal Deutschland (pronounced: /ɪksmal ˈdɔʏtʃlant/), often written as X-Mal Deutschland, was a musical group from Hamburg, West Germany, which existed from 1980 to 1990. Subhumans are an English punk rock band formed in the Warminster and Melksham areas of Wiltshire in 1980. Singer Dick Lucas had formerly been in another local band, the Mental, and other members had been in The Stupid Humans. Blyth Power are a British rock band formed in 1983 by singer and drummer Joseph Porter, formerly of anarcho-punk bands Zounds and The Mob.
