The City Of Woven Streets
''The City of Woven Streets'', also known as ''The Weaver'', is the second novel by Finnish author Emmi Itäranta, published in 2015 in Finland and by the following year by HarperCollins. As with her debut novel, Itäranta wrote the Finnish and English manuscripts simultaneously. The novel was released in June 2016 in the UK under the name ''The City of Woven Streets'', and in November 2016 in the US as ''The Weaver'', while the Finnish version was released in October 2015 as ''Kudottujen kujien kaupunki''. Set on an unnamed island the novel tells the first-hand story of Eliana, a young weaver, whose quiet life is suddenly shaken by the arrival of a mute girl bearing Eliana's name tattooed on her palm. Eliana finds her own shameful secrets unravelling along with those of the dystopic society she lives in, and she must learn to use her dormant skills to help those in need. Aysha Kala
Aysha Kala (born 1990/1991) is an English actress and theatre maker. On television, she is known for her roles in the Channel 4 series '' Shameless'' (2011) and '' Indian Summers'' (2015–2016). She was named a 2015 BAFTA Breakthrough Brit. Early life Kala grew up in Snaresbrook, East London. Her father is Gujarati Muslim. Kala attended Chigwell School. She graduated from the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in 2013. Emmi Itäranta
Emmi Elina Itäranta (born 1976) is a Finnish novelist. Her debut novel '' Memory of Water'' was published by HarperCollins in 2014. Biography Itäranta holds a MA in Drama from the University of Tampere, and worked as a columnist, theatre critic, script writer and press officer after graduation. In 2007 she enrolled in the postgraduate program of University of Kent, where she began writing her debut novel as a part of her Creative Writing course work. Working simultaneously in English and her native Finnish, Itäranta completed both manuscripts, and in 2011 the Finnish version won the Fantasy and Sci-Fi Literary Fiction contest organised by the Finnish publishing house Teos. The novel was published by Teos in 2012 under the name '' Teemestarin kirja'' (lit. "The Tea Master's Book"). The book won the Kalevi Jäntti Award in 2012, and the Nuori Aleksis Award in 2013.
