The City (band)
The City was a studio band active during the mid-1980s. It was formed by Peter McIan at Chrysalis Records after the demise of Men at Work in 1985, using some of the same talent such as the drummer Jerry Speiser. They released one studio album, titled ''Foundation'', in 1986. It produced one hit song, "Planets in Motion", which was played in heavy rotation on American radio at the time, and was briefly a popular wedding song in the late 1980s. Some of their pieces appeared on MTV, but the band never toured. The album was released in the UK in 1987. Alternative Rock
Alternative rock, or alt-rock, is a category of rock music that emerged from the independent music underground of the 1970s and became widely popular in the 1990s. Chrysalis Records
Chrysalis Records () is a British record label that was founded in 1968. The name is both a reference to the pupal stage of a butterfly and a combination of its founders' names, Chris Wright and Terry Ellis. It started as the Ellis-Wright Agency. The Wallflowers is an American rock solo project of American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jakob Dylan. The Wallflowers were originally a roots rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1989 by Dylan and guitarist Tobi Miller. The band has gone through a number of personnel changes but has remained centered on Dylan. Members of The Wallflowers have gone on to be in the Foo Fighters, Ozomatli, and Gogol Bordello. Two former members have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Jerry Speiser
Jerry Harold Speiser (born 12 August 1953) is an Australian musician. He is best known as the drummer and a founding member of 1980s pop/ new wave group Men at Work, Note: n-lineversion established at White Room Electronic Publishing Pty Ltd in 2007 and was expanded from the 2002 edition. which had Australian, US and UK hits with their singles "Who Can It Be Now?" and "Down Under" and their albums '' Business as Usual'' and ''Cargo''. He left the band in 1984 and was a member of other groups including FX, One World and Frost. Men At Work
Men at Work are an Australian rock band formed in Melbourne in 1978 and best known for breakthrough hits such as "Down Under", "Who Can It Be Now?", "Be Good Johnny", " Overkill", and " It's a Mistake". Its founding member and frontman is Colin Hay, who performs on lead vocals and guitar. After playing as an acoustic duo with Ron Strykert during 1978–1979, Hay formed the group with Strykert playing bass guitar and Jerry Speiser on drums. They were soon joined by Greg Ham on flute, saxophone, and keyboards and John Rees on bass guitar, with Strykert switching back to lead guitar. The group was managed by Russell Depeller, a friend of Hay, whom he met at La Trobe University. This line-up achieved national and international success during the early to mid 1980s.
