The Citadel Bulldogs Women's Volleyball
The Citadel Bulldogs volleyball team represents The Citadel in the sport of indoor volleyball. The Bulldogs compete in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) and the Southern Conference (SoCon), and play their home matches in McAlister Field House on the school's Charleston, South Carolina campus. They are currently led by head coach Dave Zelenock, who in 2018 led his first season. The team was established in 1998 shortly after the integration of women into the South Carolina Corps of Cadets. Volleyball was the first women's team sport established at The Citadel. On November 21, 2021, the Bulldogs completed a run through the Southern Conference Volleyball Tournament to claim their first championship, and also their first conference title in any women's team sport. Mike Capaccio
Mike Capaccio is an American athletics administrator, currently serving as athletic director of The Citadel Bulldogs in Charleston, South Carolina. He was named to that position in 2018. He previously served as athletic director at UNC Wilmington for two years, and as CEO of the Brunswick Community College Foundation. Playing career Capaccio played basketball at Madison College for two years before completing his eligibility at the University of Mary. He was known as an excellent rebounder, and led the NAIA in rebounding his senior year, a mark that remains among the top ten season performances in the Mary record book through 2020 and earning a Madison Hall of Fame induction in 1993. Coaching career Following his graduation from the University of Mary, Capaccio became an assistant coach with McHenry College. Dave Zelenock
Dave Zelenock is an American college volleyball coach, currently serving as head coach of The Citadel Bulldogs women's volleyball team. He previously served as head coach at Tennessee Tech. Zelenock was a club volleyball player at Central Michigan University. After graduation, he served as an assistant for one year at Northwood before moving to Delaware State for two years. Next, he returned to his alma mater, where he worked for six years and gained responsibilities for scouting and recruiting. McAlister Field House
McAlister Field House is a 6,000-seat multi-purpose arena on the campus of The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina, United States. It was built in 1939 and is home to The Citadel Bulldogs basketball, wrestling and volleyball teams. Office space in the facility houses athletic department staff as well as several coaches. Previously known as The Citadel Armory, the facility was named in honor of Col. David S. McAlister, Citadel Class of 1924 on March 16, 1973. The arena was renovated in 1989, and is used for entertainment events including concerts and sporting events, as well as college and high school commencements. The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, commonly known simply as The Citadel, is a Public college, public United States senior military college, senior military college in Charleston, South Carolina. Volleyball
Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other team's court under organized rules. It has been a part of the official program of the Summer Olympic Games since Tokyo 1964. Beach volleyball was introduced to the programme at the Atlanta 1996. The adapted version of volleyball at the Summer Paralympic Games is sitting volleyball. South Carolina Corps Of Cadets
The South Carolina Corps of Cadets is the military component of the student body at The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina. The Corps of Cadets is the only residential, full-time undergraduate program at The Citadel, focusing on educating the "whole person." History Organization The military organization consists of a regiment composed of five battalions, each composed of four companies of approximately 100 cadets. 2021 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Tournament
The 2021 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Tournament began on December 2, 2021 and ended on December 18th, 2021, to determine the Division I National Champion in women's volleyball. Wisconsin won its first NCAA National Championship by defeating Big Ten rival Nebraska 3–2. The championship match was played in front of an NCAA record crowd of 18,755. The Final Four was held at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. The national semifinals were held on December 16 and the championship match was held on December 18.
